Quite enjoyable ARPG/Dungeon Crawler, with Gauntlet as an obvious influence, and a (fake) 3D camera that you can turn around to spot secrets. Micromanaging your 4 characters can get a bit clunky, but the handy game speed settings help, and this could likely be alleviated by the multiplayer which must have been quite a fun experience back then. Also, healing is quite sparse in this game, even with the healing spell, so be prepared to backtrack often to the healing fountains, spend lots of time waiting for the healing cooldown between battles, or use the full heal cheat code.
A fun linear adventure. The game is mainly combat-driven, with well-thought and balanced encounters in big, multi-level dungeons filled with traps, akin to Baldur's Gate's Durlag's Tower. Obviously, the story and role-playing elements are lacking. I also have my qualms with the Real Time with Pause combat system in general, and found the final boss much too hard compared to previous boss encounters up to this point. However, the game is kept relatively short and well-paced, the enemy variety is good, and it has some of the best background art and music I've seen and heard in an isometric CRPG
The enhanced edition makes the game easy to play on any platform, which is good. It also kinda messes with the balance of the original game, adding class kits, spells and other mechanical stuff from BG2. Other than that, it doesn't get in the way, not adding any NPC or cutscene like BG1:EE did.
I would have liked an option to lock the zoom at original level rather than "pixel level", though.
