DO NOT TRY TO COMPLETE THIS GAME LEGITIMATELY WITHOUT HACKING IN ANY CURRENCY! WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!

picross is cool tho but genuinely fuck this game

a lot of the reviews for this game are from people who didn't hack their save data. i did and it was a lovely time (though it is UNPLAYABLE if you don't do that, shit was a total slog at the beginning + grinding out daily tasks for a pittance consistently killed my buzz). very solid picrossin' all around. the alt world levels were unnecessary (i still don't know how that shit works and i refuse to learn) but the main game and the mural tiles were really cool

Would've been pretty pog if it weren't for the shitty F2P and monetization aspects.

Finally, a sudoku for my mathematically challenged ass. Another one of those daily timewasters that keeps me sane during my long shifts.

Smash can be fun with the right people and I think this game gave everyone all the Smash they could ever need

Plus they added Sora so that automatically gets an additional point lmao

Regardless of how good or bad this game really is, it was the staple of all of my hangout sessions with friends for half a decade (my god), and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Also I'm biased because the day Banjo & Kazooie were announced was one of the happiest of my life.

In an ideal world, the term "remake" wouldn't be used to refer to games that are just a pre-existing one without a lot of the eccentricities that made it what it is but rather unique reinterpretations in a completely different genre with the gall to make choices as unhinged as making the new protagonist say "Bullshit" and blast a song on his phone that people were tricked into thinking was Limp Bizkit and turning the boss fight you probably forgot about into a fleshed out doomed yaoi storyline. Stranger of Paradise's journey from another nail in an already disappointing E3 to a source of ironic humor to a game sincerely enjoyed by most of those who played it was truly something special and I'm glad I was along for the ride. Every issue I had with the game (the awful loot system, how often it feels like repeating the same lines of dialogue in gameplay sections, etc.) was already outweighed by the sincere charm it has as this weird reinterpretation of one of the most formative works in the RPG genre but man did it stick the landing in that final act. I'm just sitting here trying to process the sheer amount of peak fiction I was hit with in quick succession.

Ike and Elincia's adventure to retake Crimea might seem like a simple Fire Emblem game, but Path of Radiance has ambition. Intelligent Systems was dedicated to making a console level Fire Emblem, and they put their whole Intelligent Systussy into it. The gradual worldbuilding from simple mercenary life to army commander helps elevate Path of Radiance above its prequels to make it a truly special story. The cast has a number of standouts- like the prejudice wyvern rider Jill Fizart, the crude and brazen tactician Soren, the chipper pegasus knight Marcia, and the hotblooded heron prince Reyson; chances are you'll find a favorite in Tellius.

On the battlefield, the teams wasn't just content to bring back the same battle system as the GBA titles, things like the magic triangle, inventories, skils, bonus exp, weapon refining...there's a lot of changes amongst it all. The Base system gives you a breather between maps while also exploring the units you've recruited. Some units allow YOU to choose a second weapon type they specialize in once they promote. Mechanically there's a lot going on, and yet it's still a simple pick up and play.

I think my biggest criticisms involve battle scenes not displaying the Combat Forecast, unlike all previous FEs for some reason. It definitely hurts on enemy phase not knowing what an enemy's going to come at you with. I've never really been bother with PoR's graphics but this is definitely one of the rougher looking games. The map models look like early N64 characters and the in-battle models are a little stiff to animate. The game is also a lot slower than the GBA games because of these stiff animations, though they always bring me joy going back on. I feel like PoR is a good candidate for a remake somewhere down the line- because the story and characters are SO good, but it's missing a lot of those critical quality of life updates that the more modern Fire Emblems have to really push it into one of the GREATS.

Overall, I feel like my nostalgia and fandom love might be blinding me a little- but Path of Radiance is peak Fire Emblem, and it's ambition is apparent from the very first cutscene. This one's a cult classic Gamecube game that was unfortunately released at the end of the Gamecube's life cycle, and doesn't get the same love like Paper Mario or Wind Waker. However, I'll always defend it. I am the Greil Mercenaries' strongest soldier. Make this game more available Nintendo, we should all stan the Crimea army.

(also my top 5 slaying units this playthrough: 5) Marcia, 4) Boyd, 3) Soren, 2) Jill, and 1) Ike)
