Vs. Castlevania
This isn't really worth reviewing at all but also it currently has no reviews on here so I can't pass up the opportunity to write the only "Vs. Castlevania" review on backloggd.
If Vampire Killer is the actually bad version of Simon's Quest, this game is the actually bad version of Haunted Castle. The same absurd broken difficulty of Haunted Castle's American version, and you can't even modify it in any meaningful way. Bosses take 3-4 hits to lose a single bar of health at some points, while you lose 6 bars from a single hit from any enemy for at least Stage 3 and onward. It's so ridiculous that I question the possibility of beating some of the later bosses like Death and Dracula at all without save states, although unlike Haunted Castle you can continue from the beginning of the stage rather than the beginning of the game when you die. So at the very least Vs. Castlevania is a more effective quarter-muncher than that game, if that counts for anything. But beyond the infuriating difficulty, this is basically just a straight port of the original game. I don't think there's a single change anywhere outside of bloated damage and health bars, so it obviously can't hold a candle to the expanded stages and beautiful art in Haunted Castle. Just completely pointless in every way. Luckily I don't think anyone even knows this exists, but if you were for some reason planning on checking it out, just replay the original instead.
