Aesthetic is sick and I like the combat, but the level design was truly fucking awful and I didn't like the boss designs that much.

Kinda a shitshow for me. Combat is still mid (better than 7 though) but was improved enough that I believe it could be good in a hypothetical 9. Hell, some bosses like the shark showed me that a physics based turn based positioning combat system can legit work if they build interesting encounters around it. Dondoko I actually really fw too as a money grinding alternative, more than most in the franchise. Story I did not fw that much... Ichiban's parts were mostly good but Bryce feels like a nothing villain and I really don't like his "showdown" with ichiban. I don't like how fast Akane is sidelined after a quick scene when she's the driving point of the whole first act of the game. The tatara channel stuff brought me outta the experience and I really do not like how Kiryu is treated in this game. I don't like Y6's ending and I feel like its ripple effect has gotten worse as time's gone on, Kiryu didn't feel like he was really hiding that he was alive from anyone - Meaning either he is really disregarding of the daidoji's threats or the Daidoji is legitimately incompetent (Which I would have just assumed if Gaiden didn't build them up so much). A lot of the scenes are good in theory - The scenes with older Majima, Saejima and Daigo in the fishing billage were awesome, but it still leaves such a bad taste in my mouth that he has to "hide" himself but he's willing to go talk to the most 3 famous yakuza in history besides him... The ending was mostly good though, I still really really like Ichiban and the ending sequence with him is INCREDIBLE, though I feel like Kiryu's ending here feels like where he should have ended up (minus cancer lol) we just had to spend 2 games and sideline ichiban in his own game to get there :/

Tomie's the homie, hope he comes back.

Not a perfect game, but a perfect sequel. This game will bounce a lot of people off, and that's very fair... But like Dragon's Dogma before it the vision here is uncompromising and so very confident in itself. It's a game that loves Dragon's Dogma and celebrates all the quirks and kinks in the gameplay by doubling down, and I loved every single second of it. A shame that the poor performance (as of writing) and the MTX discussion have poisoned the well in the discussion of one of the most passionate AAA games I've played in the last decade.

The last 10 - 15 hours of this game are pure unadulterated kino. A perfect reward for those who have waited this long and are willing to see it through to the end.

There are a LOT of really interesting ideas in this mod, but it's also drowning in stank fangame level design. Worth playing for context going into the much better sequel.

Legitimately the best game Nintendo made during this entire console generation. A rare kind of game where every single moment is fun, overflowing with pure creativity. Get this fucking game off the 3DS man. It is a game that deserves to be played, ideally with a better control scheme.

2022

Hoooooly shit this game fucking rules. Tighten up the controls a bit and we legit have an all timer.

Nothing made before or likely after will hit the same emotional notes this game has. A beautiful game that demands your attention, because if you don't bounce off this game chances are you'll love it like nothing else.

Very well written and very well thought out mechanically, just overstays its welcome pretty hard.

Worst version of the game by far, but the femc route is worth experiencing for the extra content if you enjoyed the base game.

VERY damn good. I don't agree with the voice direction of some of the characters, and I prefer some of the older mixes of the music tracks, but overall this is the new definitive version of the game.

Picked up this game when it came out on a whim, and it took me around three and a half years to stop getting filtered by the mechanics - But when I did I found something truly special. The mechanics are still kinda ass but their obfuscation and how you have to make your own little schedules and keep track of stuff work wonders for immersion, and definitely strengthen the idea of how you spend your time the game goes for.

Play it if you want something poignant and unique. It'll take a bit of getting used to, but it's worth it long term.

Unmatched vibe with wack as fuck controls. It never being completed is a crime against humanity.

Kojimbos most experimental game of the original metal gears, and it paid off. Every strength from the original is kept and expanded upon, and it fucking rules.

Beowulf made my friends quit this game and added 600 hours to my playtime. I fucking kneel.
