GOTY | 2024

Games I enjoyed in 2024, mildly ordered.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau
Tales of Kenzera: Zau
What a gorgeous game in so many ways. It plays great, has some great vocal performances, and pulls off some very effective storytelling techniques. All while not overstaying it's welcome. Definitely recommend!
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden
Some of the best character work and performances I've seen in a game. And outside of the annoyingly persistent light traversal puzzles it provides interesting combat, and a very satisfying narrative system.
Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2
Chaotic fun multiplayer experience. Apparently it's an interesting solo game too but I don't got those hands.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
I cannot believe this game was made, it's special. It feels incredible, the story is good fun, the combat is deep and engaging, it does smart things to make exploration incredibly rewarding. What a delight.

Unfortunately, my save got hard locked 30 hours in after a boss fight. So I'll be docking this game list placement. Probably unfair, but that's just how it's going to be until ubisoft gets back to me on my bug report.
Jusant
Jusant
A lovely, solitary game about solidarity.
Lords of the Fallen
Lords of the Fallen
Very, very good one-of-these, for better and worse.
Street Fighter 6
Street Fighter 6
I've been returning to this game on-and-off and the depth of play is scary and staggering.
Alan Wake Remastered
Alan Wake Remastered
Very cool game with a brutally sluggish mid-section.
Humankind
Humankind
Turns out a few years later, the game is in a very fun, reasonably balanced spot. Not perfect, but I still admire the ways in which Amplitude try to update the historical 4X; both in mechanic and attempt at softening the world-view these games traditionally portray.
Guilty Gear: Strive
Guilty Gear: Strive
This game continues to be very fun and rewarding to learn. Fighting games rule.
Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3
Playing this in full co-op seems like both the unintended experience and the ideal experience for me. Instead of following the lovely crafted stories the game has for the party, we forged our own delightfully weird ones. A joy.
Slay the Spire
Slay the Spire
It's back! And it's still great, it's still such a concise game that will take over your thoughts and day-dreams for weeks.
