2008
Aside from the clunky gameplay and a story that's clearly ripping off The Ring and The Grudge, this is a pretty solid horror game. I really liked the game-within-a-game aspect of it which was very inventive, along with the mystery aspect of the storyline. Though it gets a bit nonsensical with the murder subplot, and it also veers into sentimental "love saves the day" finale that felt a bit forced. The clunky gameplay weirdly enough makes the game scarier, especially when you're being chased by ghosts.

Some improvements to the gameplay compared to the first one, including a left eye mechanic which I thought was very clever. Unfortunately the story got too ambitious for its own good and ended up being nonsensical, not too mention it is nowhere near as scary as the first one.
2015
While the game initially gets off to a slow start, its irreverent humor and impactful lore progressively builds the game up to an emotional climax that made the game as something more than just another Earthbound clone. The healthy variety in the gameplay and postmodern moments added so much to the otherwise simplistic story at its core.

Not a fan of the art style, the controls can be a bit clunky, and the delivery can get a bit heavy-handed as well, but I enjoyed every single interaction with Mitzi and found her to be one of the better secondary characters in a video game.

I'm willing to be a bit more forgiving with the obtuse puzzles and laughable combat when the art design and atmosphere is this fucking jaw-dropping.
