This game was fun for me as someone who is very familiar with the music of Dragon Quest. Unfortunately, the game was never localized in English; thankfully, knowledge of Japanese is not really needed to play the game. I played a few songs in Curtain Call to familiarize myself with the menus and get acquainted with the controls.

At the beginning, you choose 4 characters from a given list to be your starting party. I never felt the need to change party members after; my party easily carried me through each song's mission. You go through a mode where you play missions for every song, similar to Final Bar Line but way easier. Once I had finished every song, a second mission mode opened up that seemed more of the same but with higher levels.

I didn't interact with the character customization as I can't read much Japanese. From what I can tell, you collect collectacards and can use them on your party members to power up. It was not needed for the first mission mode.

The gameplay is just like the other two 3ds Theatrhythm games, except that battle music is fought with the notes coming at you rather than across the screen. It's a nice replication of the first person classic Dragon Quest combat.

You can play Sugoroku. It's exactly as it sounds like, except you defeat enemies on the board with music. It seems like it's main purpose is collecting items and collectacards.

The game is a grind. After playing through all 60 or so songs, I had only unlocked 3 of however many characters you can unlock. Not to mention the collectacard system, to get everything you'd probably need to play every song multiple times.

Okay game overall. I enjoyed revisiting each piece of Dragon Quest music. The game isn't long; I was able to play all the songs in a bit under 5 hours. The fact that most of the music is midi didn't bother me. If you've never played a Dragon Quest game, this game probably won't be very fun, but otherwise it's okay.

Okay, just, why were they [redacted] on the rooftop, it makes no sense, this game makes no sense...
