Literally all I could want in a Sonic game since I was 5, the story and voice direction are the best they've ever been since 2001, the interactions between the characters and especially Tails and Sage are perfect thanks to Ian Flynn. The visuals are absolutely beautiful. The backstory of things like the Chaos Emeralds and the many references are things I can massively appreciate as it seems the lore will be more established and continuous going forward. The Open Zone gameplay works great as a foundation as there is still some noticeable jank and pop-in, but it doesn't completely ruin my experience. The Cyber Space stages are a bit short, but they are fun distractions from the main game and are really fun to speed run and the objectives within them are a nice bonus. I don't even need to go over the soundtrack because it is audible perfection. Most of the Guardian fights are really clever and it was fun taking them down in the most optimal ways, the combat is a little button mashy but thanks to the new skill tree there are a good amount of combos to learn and master. For the more spoilery stuff, Giganto, Wyvern, Knight, and Supreme are all some of the best bosses in the whole series and have Metal Gear Rising style vocal themes, although if you do not play on the hard difficulty, you might find the final boss to be a bit anticlimactic. The puzzles such as the Touhou hacking minigames or the parry challenges are a fun way to reveal more of the map too. The end of the story left me with so many questions that I would want you to discover for yourself, but if you like bullet hells, you will like the true final boss. Overall this game has a few rough edges that can be smoothed out a little through patches, but this game is truly what I have wanted as a sonic fan for over a decade. 8/10
