Dark Souls 1 but with immensely better boss design and less overall annoying levels. The only notable downgrade is the world wasn't as interconnected connected as DS1 but imo the improvements to the gameplay more than make up for it. I'm not kidding when I say that this is the best boss lineup in any game I've ever played. Even the absolute worst of the bunch are still kind of cool whereas every other boss is downright incredible. Everything from their challenging movesets to their phase changes or the often the EARGASMIC MUSIC makes every fight feel like the final fight. God damn this game is awesome.

Peak game. Just ever. It has every bit of dripping atmosphere and brutal difficulty I adore about the Souls series and the polished hitboxes of more clean, simple 2D platformers. Every area is unique and memorable and are just downright breathtaking most of the time. You even have a lot of build options despite this game not having standard leveling-up mechanics thanks to the various charms that alter your playstyle.

Peak platforming if I've ever seen it. Every level is creative and a blast to play through. The music and atmosphere are out of this world (cue laugh track) like in the first game. I can just replay this game endlessly and it never gets old.

Characters, music, and world design are all top notch. Story starts out pretty simple but turns into something far bigger and more unique. Combat is in-depth and has a lot of nuance to it. Just one of the best games I played period,

Very weak campaign and some painfully repetitive enemies but the weapons feel nice. Story sucks though. The only reason it is 3 stars is because of multiplayer and forge in which the former is solid and the ladder is the best yet.

The Soul(hehe) definition of a flawed masterpiece. Some of the level design and boss fights are downright bad and hinder replayability but the deep and rewarding combat along with so many moments of pure genius keeps me coming back.

Painting the world is fun and the writing is miles better than Sticker Star.

However, the battle system is still utter garbage and most of the bosses feel more like "use the right thing and win" rather than interesting battles.
