Super Smash bros ultimate.
Yeah okay the roster is pretty air tight and really good but now that the DLC is done what do IIII genius game reviewer SlimTim64 have to say about it?
Issokay.
Now look do I hate ultimate? PFT nah not even close to the truth. I love ultimate a lot, I think it’s strongest suit besides the roster size is the unforgettable memories I have with my friends either IRL or on discord. The multiplayer is pretty fucking mid but honestly that never stopped me from enjoying playing a million rounds and getting my ass best as bowser cuz I’m a terrible bowser main but regardless.
Cons? Story mode is laughable we all knew this. The cutscenes for WoL are GODLY I can’t wait I see all of the- there’s like 3. There’s like no story. Okay no right okay fine how’s the single player at lea- there’s barely any single player options. Shiiiiiit I only ever care about this game when my friends wanna play? That’s my problem with ultimate compared to melee (hey go check out my melee review and like it while you’re there HEY like this one even) melee has really fun multiplayer and more than enough options for a lone Tim to play enough hours alone at 3 AM cuz why not. Ultimate may have the better roster and my memories of all the as whoopping I received from Mulki7 are good and fun but that’s all it’s offering to me when the replay value of ultimate is lackluster at best. Sorry champs I’m booting up my GCN tonight :pensive:

After all these gosh ding dong years I finally secured a copy of melee for my GameCube and just. Wow.
All that wacky history aside I do think there’s a certain charm to this game that is missing in more recent smash titles like ultimate (not to say ultimate isn’t good, the legacy ultimate is gonna leave behind is ginormous!) but those GameCube sound effects, music, and models are just something that makes my brain happy and I cannot explain why. I enjoy collecting trophies unlike those fucking NFT jpeg stickers we have in ultimate. I love unlocking characters (and I don’t remember every character that’s unlockable and how to get them so it feels really cool to me) there’s a lot more modes than I thought also giving the player an immense game run and more of a reason to come back to this title. I enjoy the single player it a lot unlike ultimate where I would boot it up just to play with friends or try out the newest hit character for like an hour or 2. (Man do I hate ultimate? I gotta stop ripping on it!)
Just a genuine classic and an important game in the history of smash bros., nintendo, and probably gaming as a whole I dunno.

Honestly can never play this game alone because it’s so boring but with friends is a fucking genuine all time blast I don’t GET IT
It’s a real shame that this is the Mario party reunion with a whole lotta epic throwbacks and whatnot when there really isn’t a whooole lot here, 1 or 2 more boards would’ve been nice (honestly thought there would be more boards we could unlock lol) and I don’t entirely hate the roster but it feels just a little bland compared to other Mario parties.
But besides all that the online is shockingly good and what we DO have is not poor, it’s not GREAT but it’s not bad. I have a real good time with both CPU and other players near and far and I immensely enjoy the achievements and all the stickers, encyclopedia pages and music you can buy after playing games (it’s also a real treat that you can change the music from new to old in the settings once you buy them).
It’s SO close to being the ideal Mario party reunion nostalgia whatever you’re looking for but it’s a so close so far situation.

My only complaint is that it feels too linear for a Metroid game, I don’t really feel like I’m making the progress on my own because I’m always being told to go somewhere and get this power up but besides that oh my GOD HOLY SHIT WHAAAT WOAH WHAT THE FUUUUCK WHAAAAAAAAT
You could’ve taken the Q team out and nothing would change in the story, the story itself isn’t bad but the execution on getting all the twists and turns and plot points was incredibly piss poor. Hopefully if a 4th game comes out it will explain things better and is just a better game
The characters and story are immensely improved from its prequel 999, the only reason its not 5 stars is because you have to go through really repetitive dialogue sequences before you can get into the REAALLLL GOOD SHIT!!!

Psychonauts was a story about a boy saving the world and succeeding in his dream of becoming a… Psychonaut and being able to work with his lifelong inspirations and heroes.
Psychonauts 2 is a story of how even the people you look up too are incredibly flawed individuals. The story in Psychonauts 2 is amped up to a hundred with a more serious tone with loss, love, and acceptance.
The best thing about the previous psychonauts was collecting everything you could and I’m very happy to say that not only have they added more collectibles to gather in the game, they are all a joy to collect. There’s some figments that annoyed me but once you find them all you feel accomplished. Each level was incredibly unique and enjoyable (especially helmet fullbear). My only complaint is that the final boss was really short for my liking compared to some other boss fights Raz had to pummel through but it didn’t hinder my experience in the slightest. All the characters old and new were so charming, funny, and emotional that it made me care for each and last one.

My only gripe is that the boss fights (besides King K. Rool) where too easy
Playing this game is hell and that’s why i love it.
When you’re doing dogshit because item hell or obstacles get in your way but you somehow win and get 1st place is the most orgasmic feeling I haven’t felt playing a game in a long while.
Unlocking new karts and maps and characters is a blast, even though the impossibility of getting king boo and Petey lingers, they’re fucking awesome to earn at the end.
Having two characters has to make you think strategically on when you use your items because you ca easily lose them at anytime due to another item hitting you or you’re just stupid and you ran into a damn wiggler bus, I hate you mushroom bridge.
Overall it’s just some good shit.
