The story was surprisingly really engaging with the humour that lands most of the time and the emotional moments that actually made me emotional. I also quite liked the characters and the interactions I had with them and between them (kind of scratched the similar itch that Mass Effect Trilogy scratches), which is only enhanced by the great voice acting (even though sometimes they talk too much at the same time to the point where it's impossible to understand what they're saying).

Gameplay itself can be pretty fun but there's nothing really special about it. It basically consists of Mass Effect-like ship section and Uncharted-like exploration section with some squad based, ability heavy third person action encounters in between. And I felt like the abilities unlocked too late into the game which made the earlier part of the game a bit of a slog.

Overall pretty nice, but it also felt like it was kind of in awkward place, as in I think the game would have been better if it were longer or shorter and/or mechanically more complex or simpler.

2021

There's a lot to like in this game.
Lovely art design (I really like character animation especially), great soundtrack (by Japanese Breakfast, I really need to revisit her discography), open world that's not intimidatingly huge and is fun to explore. Also I think it was a good decision to do away with combat and focus only on exploration.
The story where you see the world, meet people to contemplate and decide who you really want to be really hit home because of where I'm in right now in my life. The game basically lets you freely decide how you want to proceed, and it felt like a perfect way to tell the kind of story the it's trying to tell.
It's a shame that the game is plagued by technical problems (at least on Series X) like constant stuttering, framerate drops, music and sound effects keeps cutting in and out etc. which keep it from being a pleasant experience it could've been.

Bugs (stuttering in cutscenes, game saying there are enemies around when there is none etc.) and missing features (especially something basic like chapter selection and new game plus mode missing) aside, it's a pretty decent game.

Kind of reminds me of Halo CE not only in terms of art and level design and overall tone of the game but also in a sense that it feels like a good foundation for something great that will come in the future. Whether that "great sequel" (or campaign expansion) comes or not, we'll have to see.

What the fuck is going on with the story?
Why is the campaign so linear and claustrophobic and much more so than Halo 4?
Why?

Well at least gunplay is still fun so there’s that.

2-ish hours of cute & fun game.
Gameplay is similar to Katamari Damacy but in this case you control a hole to suck in things to make the hole bigger to suck in more things.
It would have been great if there were more levels that are bigger and longer because it's just so fun to suck in things.

Great environmental design. The characters, not so much, the animation is not very good to the point where it just feels uncanny every time the charaters start to speak. Also I have to wonder why the developers thought that changing the texts in things like signs and posters to English was a good idea. The dual world system felt a bit pointless as it came with a hit on the graphical quality and the puzzles involving it wasn't particularly engaging or inventive. If anything, I think this would have been a better game if it did away with puzzles and focused more on walking simulator elements, letting players just enjoy the atmosphere and story without all the busyworks.

But the thing is that the story is a mess. There were points (including the ending) where I was easily able to predict what's going to happen next but this wasn't bad enough that I still wanted to keep playing to uncover what's happening. The biggest problem was how the game handled it's main theme, abuse. The game seemed to be more interested in making an excuse for the abuser's actions or even making players sympathise with them while portraying the abuse victim as someone who created this mass murdering monster that can only be stopped by killing the creator. Just leaves a sour taste in my mouth the more I think about it.

This one is actually fun to play compared to Kiwami 1 and Zero.

2018

I was having a blast until I finished the main quest. After that, the game became somewhat of a chore with how it drip feeds the story elements. It plays really well and it's overall a pretty good game but I have to wonder if it was a right decision to have player spend almost 100 hours to fully see the story. At the same time, the fact that it made me keep playing and end up spending 94 hours even though I got somewhat weary of the gameplay shows how interesting and well-written characters are.

2020

Really liked the characters and the interaction between them, especially how the game handled the romance.
Unfortunately, the gameplay loop is quite dull and repetitive and I had to force myself to keep playing solely because of the charm of the protagonists.

Neon was the best of 3 superpowers in Second Son, and in this game, they basically took the neon ability and made it more powerful and faster, resulting in a game more fun to play than the original.

You can definitely see this was a launch window game and the story is somewhat forgettable but it's still fun to maneouvre around the city with the superpowers.

The story feels like it was written by some 12 year old kid, subpar music, moving around the world map is a chore, constant framedrops that make it almost impossible to play in higher difficulties, and talking about difficulty, there's no difficulty curve whatsoever. You just go from really easy tutorial tracks to the tracks that bombs you with notes in like 2-3 songs.Well at least you don't have to hit only a part of the notes to finish a level so there's that.
