Games I 'discovered' on my own

The idea for this list was inspired by this video, where at the beginning of the video he says "If these games didn't have the massive following they do and you found them on your own, would your feelings toward them be different?".

So basically these are games I didn't find out about through Backloggd, Metacritic, Twitter, or from friends, and could form my own opinion about them. Not so surprisingly I love most of these games.

Honestly making this list has kinda inspired me to spend less time on both this site and the internet as a whole, hopefully, I can stick to it

Final Fantasy VII Remake
Final Fantasy VII Remake
The big one.

I don't quite remember what compelled me to play the demo back in March 2020, but I did and I was intrigued. A month later I bought it, played it, got stuck on a boss, picked it up again a month later, finished it, and now I have escaped a Fortnite addiction and have almost 200 games sitting on a shelf.
Final Fantasy VII Remake: Episode Intermission
Final Fantasy VII Remake: Episode Intermission
Not generally going to include entries in series I played after the first game I played from them or DLC, but I beat this the day it came out, so I didn't have a chance to have my opinion swayed at all and I love it.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Bought it on a whim because it was the only game left in Target and Byleth had just added to Smash so I knew who they were.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Including trailers, because I'm not really being influenced by other people's opinions, but yeah I liked the trailer and needed something to buy for the PS5 at launch, and wowee was that a good decision.
FAR: Lone Sails
FAR: Lone Sails
Perfectly represents what this list is about, bought it for 3 bucks on sale, solely because it was cheap and loved it.
Florence
Florence
Same thing as FAR
A Plague Tale: Innocence
A Plague Tale: Innocence
In 2021 before I really had an organised backlog, I grouped every game I owned/had access to, put it through a randomizer and this came up. It's amazing
Wreckfest
Wreckfest
PS Plus is a great thing.
Astro's Playroom
Astro's Playroom
"It's only a 2-hour tech demo it can't be that good". ITS PEAK.
Marvel Snap
Marvel Snap
Played it cos marvel cool, but it's actually one of the better mobile games in terms of gameplay and monetisation.
Windjammers 2
Windjammers 2
Gamepass is a great thing.

I like this idea. My biggest "discovered on my own" triumph was Katamari Damacy. Walked into a GameStop in high school, saw this wacky-looking PS2 game and bought it on a whim. Became one of my favorite games of all time

This is a cool list idea! (and a good list too haha)
@cowboyjosh @TheYeti Thanks for the kind words! Honestly, it would be a dream scenario for me to discover a game like Katamari on my own but I think my game knowledge is unfortunately too vast now
