I said I wouldn't order these, but FFVII has the strongest opening of any game I've played. The CG intro was significant at the time and does a great job at establishing the setting and tone of the game. The transition into gameplay and pacing of the bombing run is likewise perfect.

I like the very funnily named Toot Toot Sonic Warrior, but that Toei animation set to Sonic Boom rules.

The haunting music that plays over the opening crawl is peak SNES era SMT, but I really love that sudden shift from "welp, time to go home" to "aaaaa the school has been transported to HELL!" I think If... is an incredibly sloppy game, but everything up to the first boss is great, and it might be my favorite lead-in to a SMT game.

Less quaint by today's standards and more protoplasmic, the Battle of Hoth mission in Shadows of the Empire ruled back in the day, and my aged brain is effortlessly able to slip back into the same excited state of mind when I play it now.

The whole opening level is good, but specifically the bit after the mission briefing where you careen into a ton of bad guys in an APC and then fly through the god damn windshield.
