Fantastic little game, cute, great music, fun gameplay, good puzzles, great sound design and world layout, frankly nothing about it was bad. I felt the love, and I almost cried at the end of Basto for basically no reason other than that I felt like people who cared made this game and that I cared about them making it. That feeling of "I want someone, anyone, to experience and enjoy what I made" hit me so hard that I couldn't help tear up. If on the small chance a dev ever reads this review, thank you for making this.

Sometimes you play a game and when you put it down, your thoughts on it kinda just dwindle, like if you're not actively playing it then it's hard to really feel the game's goodness. This is like the opposite, where I wasn't really thinking of how good the game is while playing, but now that I've put it down I'm marveling at how actually genius it is in certain aspects

There's also a special place in my heart for games that just let you fail and grow with no expectations of you at all. It even encourages you a bit and reminds you that there's no reason to push yourself, simply do your best. I'm not always the biggest fan of stuff like that but here I think it complements the experience nicely. The lack of something greater to "work" towards is a tiny let down but that's just a me thing, I'm not docking points for it

The abilities are neat as hell, the gameplay loop is quick and satisfying, sometimes you just pull some shit out of your ass last-second and get the most monumental victory of the last 5 minutes and you really feel the dopamine hit. Pretty stellar for such a small game, if you ask me

This has to be in the top 5 most interesting games I've ever played. Not for the gameplay or even the story, but just for the feel of the whole thing. Everything is slapdash and weird; it's like the games' seams are showing on purpose. The dialogue is fun and snarky, the levels are more engaging than I initially thought they'd be, and there are some legitimate emotional moments packed in there.

I was looking forward to 100%ing this, unfortunately I was having trouble getting certain events to occur, so I gave up on that. It's a shame, I definitely wanted to spend more time with this weird world.

In the end though, the standout aspect of this game is the soundtrack, which anyone who knows this game talks about. It really is great; I recommend listening to it if you don't feel like playing this.

I'll miss this game

Do people not like this game? I liked it

I was skeptical at first, since this was my first foray into the "Paper RPG" genre, but my friend Thomas446, the smash brothers genius, urged me to continue playing, and I found myself heavily invested once I was about halfway through. I was seriously impressed by the level of storytelling and emotional weight this game brought to the table. Everything was extremely compelling and the pacing was phenomenal. I had a couple slight hangups with the combat and how some stuff felt a little unfair, but I was playing the whole game with the Hard Mode badge on for the extra perks, so that one is on me.

Overall, an incredibly satisfying and memorable experience that I will look back on extremely fondly
