If you're going to make chase sequences, don't make it a maze where every room looks identical and also very hard to see where you're going.

A little too short to have any super hard opinions about it. The characters were annoying. Keiran was funny (derogatory). Didn't care at all about the legendaries. Even laggier than base game. The difficulty was welcome but also just a side effect of the fact that I built a completely new team from scratch out of Kitakami pokemon. Despite the wave of criticisms I had a passably fine time, probably because I played it on call with my girlfriend. It's at least better than Isle of Armor from SWSH because I could be bothered to finish this one and its dex.

I got this game on day one and it took me a long time to beat it. Not because it's particularly long or hard (I only ever got one game over on the absolute last level) but because for some reason my motivation to keep playing was really low around worlds 4-6. I was in awe at the beginning; the stylized artstyle is really charming and pretty, the movement felt great- I LOVE how they bring back so many mechanics from the old games such as the spin jump, the twirl, throwing shells upwards, etc- and they both held up all the way through, and at first the level design was very interesting with the Wonder Seeds, but eventually it started to wear on me just a little? The level design started to feel a bit repetitive for a bit near the end of the main game, it became kind of predictable and like I was going through variations of the same stuff over and over. That feeling suddenly faded though as I reached the final handful of main game levels, they were incredible. I was then immediately driven to go back and get all the collectibles I had missed so I could do the special world stuff, and it was a great time. Before my motivation came back I thought this game was a 3, maybe 3 and a half, but the final stretch of my 100% playthrough left me in such a good mood. I was a big fan of the NSMB series, I grew up with it and I'd honestly stand by NSMB2. But NSMBU made me realize how tired I was of the formula, so seeing 2d Mario this way was so refreshing. It's not perfect, there's still bits and pieces of this game that feel like Nintendo was trying to play it safe (cough the lack of interesting bosses cough) but the pure creativity and overhauling of the 2d Mario formula is incredible to see. I'm really excited to see where this goes, if the next game is another spin of this foundation or they do something else unique from this.

This might have been my most anticipated game ever, and it let me down immensely. Something is just not right about this game. The gameplay was fun at first, but eventually it began to wear on me. The new abilities were great, though, I enjoyed using them. I had a fun time hunting down enemies and bosses to use their horns as new fusing material and using shield fuses to cheese shrines and get around quicker. I had a lot of fun using the new building mechanic, too, of course. Sometimes it all felt a little clunky, though, and made the menus a chore to get through. Unfortunately it feels like there's even more busy work than in BotW, which is why it wore me down- There's more shrines, more koroks, more side quests, but all of them are significantly less fun and rewarding. I did actually manage to complete all the shrines in this game, a feat I couldn't finish in my 6 years of playing BotW, but it was not worth it. The depths were cool at first, too, but eventually I realized it was just a droning expanse of darkness and gloom with little to keep me interested other than the old map locations and the lightroots to tell me where the shrines were. It doesn't really feel tied to the core experience of the game, either, just tossed in to make the game seem even bigger. The sky is equally empty. And the story, GOD the story, I think it is genuinely bad. No matter how hard I attempt to understand people who think its the pinnacle of Zelda, I just can't. It doesn't try to do anything special, or try to do anything at all really. There was a sense of mystery and excitement that the trailers gave me that just wasn't the same in-game. They bait and switch long-time Zelda fans with an Imprisoning War name-drop only to show us an event that's completely unrelated (and continue to show us that same event over and over ad nauseam). The lack of a story structure just does not work in this case and it ends up making me feel removed from what little story they have in the first place and leaves me annoyed when they show me what's essentially the same cutscene 4-5 times juuust in case I missed the other ones. It barely even acknowledges the game its a sequel to and resets the status quo in so many places. The only cool and interesting thing they do is turn Zelda into a dragon. Even then, I was able to see it coming from the first memory and it STILL had absolutely no proper build up or reason for me to care, especially since I could tell they weren't going to let her stay like that or let her choice have any consequence. The temples were a little fun (especially compared to the Divine Beasts) but still way too free-form compared to typical for me to get any real enjoyment out of them. The build-up to the Wind Temple was awesome and the boss music was a jam. I had decent fun with the Fire Temple, too, but it wasn't as good. The worst one by far was definitely the Water Temple- I was able to skip over most of the puzzles and its just so short. The Lightning Temple was great, though, it's the only one I felt like wasn't hindered by the free-form structure of the game, and aaaalmost felt like a traditional Zelda dungeon. The final boss was pretty alright, and I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it weren't bogged down by such a mediocre game. There was a level of spectacle to the final that had me hooked, and their pre-credits ending almost got me. If I enjoyed the story to begin with I'm sure it would have, as everything comes full circle in a way that could have been satisfying but wasn't. I wish this game ended up differently, it feels like something was changed in development or didn't pan out and just changed the direction of the game. This game just isn't what I want out of a Zelda game and it feels like it doesn't respect anything that came before it. I had a decent time and the game had its moments (maybe more than this highly critical review would let on), but overall it leaves a lot to be desired. Seeing all the waves of praise this game is getting with little to no criticism makes me scared for the future of what I might consider my favorite game series.

a lil finnicky but love the concept a lot. Felt big brained figuring out some of the solutions lol

Pretty fun! Feels like there's a little too much padding but the final section of the game carried hard. Plus I got to make the Bros. absolutely busted which made it mad fun lmao
The traversal felt a bit convoluted, I get the GBA only has two face buttons but then don't cram all those abilities onto them! Same with the Bros. moves, the timing felt weird and they felt clunky so I didn't feel incentivized to use any more than the first one very often. But it's still Mario and Luigi combat so I had a good time.

First half of this game was a banger second half was a drug trip but not the good kind lmao. also the online sux

I've been working on this game for like two years now and I finally finished it after putting off the last floor on the White Treehollow for way too long. The main story isn't as strong as BW1 but the post-game is absolutely amazing and set the bar way too high for other entries in the franchise. It also really takes advantage of the dual release and the fact that it's a sequel in really rad ways. I did nearly everything I could and it was a blast the whole way through.

The story for this game is actually quite amazing. It's not the strongest it's ever been but it's pretty damn good in comparison to the Pokemon standard. All the characters were very charming and full of life and I became attached to them, and the final boss was super rad. I also loved a LOT of the new Pokemon designs. But after doing everything the game had to offer, I feel very dissatisfied with the amount of content. Don't get me wrong, the main journey was fun (albeit clunky, and don't forget the performance issues I won't touch on because everybody already has) but it kind of just... ended. I tried to milk as much content as I could- I did all the classes, the post game, got my main team up to level 100, hunted shinies- and even then it was over so suddenly. This game suffers from a genuine lack of stuff to do, even with the three quest lines there's nothing to do aside from hard-targeting the next main-story mission and maybe filling in your dex on the way. Hopefully the DLC will give me more to do, but that's just another $30 to support yet another rushed game.

Just love braindead walking around

Ok I still absolutely love the cast but the cases are just so long and such a slog. Last case is SO damn good though so it's ok.

DUDE THOSE CHARACHERS ARE SO FUCKING CHARMING THEY MAKE ME WANNA MERGE WITHOUT LOOKING

Feel horrible for this bc I was so excited to get this day one and... it just wasn't fun. It was so close, I enjoyed the presentation and exploration but the combat felt stiff and way overly brutal. I made it to the third boss and had to call it quits. They patched in ways to make it easier later but the things they added felt more like cheaty band-aids rather than a potential "easy" mode.

Fell off HARD halfway through. Got insanely repetitive and visuals went from cool to grating.
