weight in games

video games are cool because sometimes you feel like a whimsical little guy hopping through clouds and sometimes you're a brick shithouse

cars in games feel heavy so they can feel like they're gliding on air :D
sorry to have a nintendo fan's idea of video game lineage but castlevania is at the very least my idea of the most polished and inspiring action game of the era in which all of your actions contain weight. this releasing after super mario bros had presented us with the perfect evanescence of a bouncy little guy and starkly contrasting it with every jump being a leap of faith
at the very least feels like the blueprint for the mixture of weight as communicating grounded-ness; the lack of control of your character harmonizing with the cinematics
rocket jumping is basically the best fighting against gravity has ever felt
i thought about putting street fighter here for the example of zangief in contrast to the rest of the cast, but i guess potemkin is the best example of this in the genre, right? the big sheer constract of the deranged anime air fight ballistics VS being a hulking dude getting across the stage one step at a time to grab you outta the air

Ico

the controller rumbles as you take each step with your partner in your hand; weight as a communication of the weight of a human life
representation of realistic physics engines and manipulation. the source engine also looks very funny when things are weightless so bonus points
representation for weight's interplay with the weird indie physics-as-the-whole-challenge microgenre that developed over the years
is this anything
ICO's description but in like a really mundane and labour-ish way (i mean this lovingly and from awe inspired)
