It's Cave Story man. It's free. A bit edgy. It's cool.
But I'm Sucks and the sparseness of checkpoints gets under your skin.

You can feel that it's an extremely special game, but the gameplay is rough. Extremely so. I do not recommend it for that, but if you got the courage, it's definitely worth it, even though I was so glad when it ended.

I haven't the words to make this game justice, but I Must Write for completionist purposes. Which, by the way, I don't recommend having on this game. The sidequests are going to make you mental, I swear. Just finishing is enough, trust. The story is great, The Master deserves its reputation.

Will have fond memories of being completely lost and accidentally finding a way of destroying all economy. And this game is OLD. What I mean is, you gotta READ THE MANUAL. I'm serious. Don't worry, the manual is a treat. It's got fuckin irl cooking recipes in it. No I haven't made them.

Read the manual.

Oooooh, I love TOEM. It's the coziest, it's really fun, it's really charming, everything has personality, the little quests are great, being a completionist in it feels awesome too. Indie treasure.

Bad part is that there are only about 6 hours of gameplay (with the free DLC). I'd easily play 40. Something about these games that give you creative outlets, man. Operating a camera as you want it... Why is it so fun. Maybe I should do something with my life.

If you're into Atelier, it's Atelier. As a newcomer that was POSSESSED with the need to craft cute ointments while browsing the lightbulb selection of a local store irl (I don't know what came over me) I decided that Ayesha was going to be the Atelier game entrusted to that fine purpose.

It's okay! It's cute, it's crafty... it's okay! It's interesting, an RPG where you battle with pretty much items only. Sooo cuuute my fucking bomb that explodes you violently. I made that.
I will forever be fond of this game for satisfying the inscrutable exhortations of my soul, even if just for a few weeks. Jesus, even remembering this is making me feel a bit emotional. What the fuck happened to me at that lightbulb store.

Convinced you can't do better if you want a farming game. Every task feels good, and everything is fleshed out enough. Nothing is obligatory, there are pretty much no stakes, but you can do so much, and it's very fun. Clears every competitor, really.

How big is your JRPG endurance? For how long can you handle no stakes dialogue? How many weapons can you craft until you lose your mind? How many cooking recipes, how many droplists, how many combos can you fucking endure? You might notice these aren't really negatives, they just might be. But really, how much of it can you endure? Will you get bored?

To say that I didn't have fun would be a lie, i had 78h on steam when I dropped this, and a good portion of those were enjoyable. But there was some point that I realized, what the fuck am I doing? Is this story really worth it? Is the combat good enough to make me play 40 more hours and finish it? Fuck no. I'm really sorry gamers and tales fans (I've been at least one of those), but what a pointless game. And whatever the gaming equivalent for suspension of disbelief is for movies, I had it for this game. I was into it, I opened myself to it, I respected it and tried to engage with every one of its facets, I examined and immersed myself in things, I did my part in trying to make this fun. But there's a limit, that once you cross, you notice that it... wasn't really worth it.

It's not a bad game by any means, it's done reasonably well, and it has it all! But only if, as per my first pharagraph, you got the JRPG endurance for it. If I did, I don't anymore. Maybe if I was a 14 yo kid with a xbox and near infinite free time, this would be great, the jrpg timesink would feel awesome, because it's admittedly done okay, all of the little menus and mechanics you can dive into. But why? So many hours? Forgive me but I must call it pointless again. It's how I felt.

Also, there's a certain breed of older games that are filled with missable quests, some needed for that oh-so-holy character development (read a book anyone?), and this one is so FULL with them, even on a second playthrough, you gotta make gamefaqs play for you. Sincerely, fuck that.

Also, we gotta talk about Yuri. He really is That Bitch, the rumors are true. He's the best part, and almost, ALMOST, makes the story good (you know what I'm talking about) but this mf just gets buried in the JRPG shlock around him, and the story keeps going as a shallow waste. Sorry Yuri.

I know I rambled (what's this site for, right?) but It's a good game. Just check your JRPG endurance™ and good luck with it.

Are battle royales even designed for you to have fun? God.
Minigames are pretty hit or miss too. How hard is it to make a mario party-like game?
ALSO FUCK LIVE SERVICE, FUCK F2P, HOLY SHIT

Holy shit. Sorry but even while loving strategy, 4X is definitely not for me. Had a dreadful experience.
Too many things to do, and ALL of them are boring.
But that's the thing with 4X, you have to try it once, maybe you'll love it. But sigh. I couldn't handle clicking things anymore, holy shiiit. And Mouse1 has got to be on my top5 computer buttons.

A PVE, tower defense game with completionist tendencies and a bit of grind that has co-op, frequent updates, many game modes, many ways to win and solid gameplay loop? It's great!

And as far as live service games go, we got some constant problems that, in my point of view, make them inferior to every other kind of game. Here though? They're pretty much nonexistant: no optimizing the fun out of it, no FOMO, no fortnite stores, no significant powercreep, no shitty updates that just pretend to have content to convince you to never stop playing, no daily limits, no relevant microtransactions.

Thank you monkey game, you're nothing extraordinary, but you're fun and honest. NEVER. STOP. JOPPING.

Fun concept, and quick to finish but, paradoxically, SO GRINDY. You can play for free to pass the time. Honestly, had enough fun, worth it.

Cute but I played the launch version that was sooo bugged. Didn't experience any of the updates, but apparently the game is way better nowadays (there was a QOL and grind reduction update, which were the points that needed attention). Can't really speak on it as it is now, it was okay but I never plan on returning to it.

It's okay, you can pass the time. But you have to be prepared for the roguelitest experience ever. You're going to have some runs just to accrue money, just to upgrade yourself, just to be able to beat those bosses. Don't really recommend the game.

No. Props for the vibes and spritework, but that's it. The drink mixing is just a pasttime, it's cute. The meat and bones on a game like this is the dialogue, the story. And sometimes it's pretty good, almost great. But most of it, it's what I can only describe as a waste of time. Nearly all characters are boring, without depth, nothing interesting going on.
And I'm not even sure that i "missed the point" of the game, by going with the possible argument that it's supposed to be simple, supposed to be cozy, but I personally disagree. They try to keep things fresh all the time, they got a flair for drama. But it doesn't work!

Shallow is the closest word I can find that can express my feelings towards the writing. Also, I got some prejudice about these waifu games. Shouldn't have listened to all the praise of the story. Also, the ost... not that good. Repetitive. Fuck this

2021

fuck this for giving a bad name to indie titles. your gameplay should have been simple and engaging (it sometimes is), but it's repetitive and stupid. Really, it sucks. also your atmospheric cutscenes don't mean anything, its just a smokescreen trying to pass as an actual story or even meaningful commentary. fuck you for trying to sound artsy. signed, art hoe

It's incredible, very attentive to detail, great artistic choices, very charming interpratation of the myths, good replayability. Yeah I know, real insightful words, but it's just real good, give it a try for sure.

There's something to be said (negatively) about the roguelike aspects, but who fucking cares, they deal with it so expertly, runs are still fun, it does not feel like a waste of time and they reward you with new voicelines and story - which is the ultimate gamer reward these days (read a book anyone? watch a movie maybe?)
