It is definitely a very good game and playing through it was an experience. However… I don’t think it accomplishes the same as Breath of the Wild, nor did I feel the same.
I wouldn’t call it a DLC as some people were complaining, but I do see why it’s being said. The additions felt kind of lacking to me, specially the Sky Islands, which were the main marketing pull.
Regarding the new powers, I only really clicked with Ascension. It was so much fun and a really nice quality of life addition. Now, for the other 3… Rewind was cool in concept, but I feel like it was a little bit underutilized and the puzzles were it was involved were a bit too obvious. Fuse felt like a chore after some 20 hours of gameplay. I preferred BotW nice looking weapons too (though I agree this addition allowed for monster parts to make more sense gameplay-wise). Ultrahand was just to OP for my taste, and building also felt like a chore after the novelty had dimmed. They 100% knew about this and that’s why Auto-build exists but is not given to you until a bit further into the game.
I found music a bit disappointing as well, I liked BotW’s more. Story… meh, not bad. I really liked the “twist” with Zelda, even if I saw it coming from the very first hours.
There is one thing that single handedly dropped half a star from the score for me: this game does not feel like a sequel to Breath of the Wild. What annoys me more is that it seems like it’s trying NOT to be a sequel. A lot of major plot points from the previous game are simply erased from existence and not referenced at all during the whole game. It feels extremely awkward if you came to this expecting a proper sequel. The main story of this game has absolutely nothing to do with BotW. It could be a standalone experience and nothing would change. Why Nintendo? I get they didn’t want to alienate new audiences (it’s been 6 years after all), but they went too far, in my opinion.
In any case, it’s still Zelda, it’s still good, this is the best Hyrule we have ever experienced.
