thrilling and satisfying more often than frustrating and clunky. the tank controls don't take long to get used to, especially once you realize this is a slow, methodical puzzle game and not a fast-paced actioner. love the eerie atmosphere, really excited to make my way thru the rest of the series

so mind numbingly boring it raises metaphysical questions

Great belated sequel to the first game, which I loved as a kid during the original Xbox days and never thought would see a follow-up. Worth the wait as it truly feels like a labor of love, a well-thought out continuation of a cult classic

Made it twenty minutes in before realizing this is a HARD pass for me. Absolutely the fuck not, thank you very much

this game is so frequently aggravating its negatives constantly threaten to overshadow its positives. the level design often veers into the annoyingly labyrinthine, your party members get in the way (not just in figurative disrupting-the-boss-battle ways - try watching for a white mushroom's next signal without donald or goofy blocking your view or grabbing all of the fruit on the jungle slider course without tarzan's polygonal loinclothed ass clipping through the screen directly into your face), item farming quickly grows tedious and needlessly complicated, the gummi shit is so confusing that even the in-game tutorials basically amount to "figure it out on your own". but in spite of all of this, when you walk away, you don't hear me say "please, oh baby, don't go" - simple and clean is the way that you're making me feel tonight

glad i completed these so i never have to bother with their tedious fuck-you level design ever again

This is the audio log of Timothy Vietnam, planet Mars, year 2145. Things are starting to get weird over here. Is it me, or are things starting to get seriously weird over here? Things are seriously starting to take a turn for the weird. I've placed guns and armor in locker 123, with the code 456. I've been hearing weird things around. I think I saw a weird guy out there. I think I saw a freak out there. I think I saw a weirdy out there. I think I saw a weird freako over there

despite all of its bullshit gotcha moments and its veering from the classic doom formula i really enjoyed this one. felt such heavy heavy nostalgia for the sixth gen i could hear the xbox demo disc aphex twin music while playing

fun lil throwback to the 2004 game, though it somehow overstays its welcome despite being super short. gets a bit repetitive

why are the physics and gamefeel almost as bad as sonic 06? why is the "open world" completely devoid of life, intrigue, soul? why do all of the action stages play and feel like tacked-on afterthoughts? why are the enemy designs so passionless and boring? why is there so much pop-up? why the neutered ass candle shop ambient soundtrack? why is all of sonic's dialogue now more than ever so aggravatingly joss whedonist?

a neon-and-hellfire psychedelic masterpiece, through and through. kinetic and loud and vivid, brutal and unforgiving but never unfair, and intensely rewarding on so many sensory levels

2016

the most fun i have ever had playing a video game in my goddamned life

100%.
a handful of fun 2001 platforming moments sprinkled throughout a bullshit janky broken frustrating 2001 platforming dumpster fire. never playing this again
