The bamham combat mechanics here, which modern protagonists are usually equipped with from the get-go, have to be unlocked to ensure you live out your kung-fu movie fantasy and don't get shanked by multiple enemies at once. Though often strenuous, I love this comfy cheesy tv crime drama main story, but the real standout of Yakuza is the side stuff. An old man complaining about graffiti on his house exterior - turns out the culprit was his delinquent son. What else could be the conclusion but a father's realization that it's all just his kid's venue for artistic expression and that "ahh kids will be kids so let's just let them be"? What else matters than finding yourself and doing what you like? Yakuza is chock-full of charming moments like this and it made sitting through the cutscene galore a lot less tedious.
