Games That Make My Monkey Brain Go "THAT'S JUST LIKE DMC"
They're just video games with really good DMC allusions!
24 Games
One of the characters has a katana that cuts through space.
The main character has a transformation that looks like it could be a Devil Trigger. Also the MC's brother is fightable more than once, and the mother dies offscreen leading to what Julius does for a major bulk of the game, building on the themes of family and lineage.
Mostly the same as Xillia 2, minus the Devil Trigger part and add in clashing color schemes. Velvet's arm reminds me of Nero's Devil Bringer. Also replace demons with angels in the final dungeon.
Sora straight up has Rainstorm, like it's 1 to 1 ffs. Also, Yozora in ReMind has Judgment Cut, and his regular moves are strikingly similar to Nero's. Rage Form could also be seen as a Devil Trigger.
Rean is a white haired katana wielder with a demonic transformation and one of the costumes is just a color-swapped version of Vergil's. Also has a white haired rival character who wields dual pistols. Applies to this entire arc, but it's amplified here.
Sora and Riku's entire rivalry mirrors Dante and Vergil's.
Read what I put for Kingdom Hearts, but add in Castle Oblivion as a stand-in for Temen-Ni-Gru.
Sora and Kairi's entire relationship mirrors Nero and Kyrie's. Applies to the numbered games and to an extent CoM and Days, but it's at its most apparent in here and in KH3 ReMind. Also the final boss can manipulate space, and the arena is in a closed off dimension.
Dual Wield Ryuko does that one pose DMC3 Dante does with Ebony and Ivory. Not to mention the anime has very strong vibes and theming similar to DMC. Definitely the closest to DMC than all the others on this list thematically, at least.
Sonic and Shadow are basically how Dante and Vergil are characterized in 3 and 5. Sonic, being the cocky yet altruistic protag. Shadow being the rival character who lost someone very important to them (just put Maria in Eva's place) and essentially damns humanity until the final hour where they both team up to stop a planet-destroying abomination. Ends with Shadow presumably dead.
Builds on Shadow's character from SA2 and basically becomes Vergil with an actual redemption arc. Also has a katana that cuts through space.
Structurally similar to the first DMC game in terms of narrative, but replace demons with monkeys.
Bayonetta is directly inspired by DMC in both gameplay and characters, except with angels instead of demons. Even references DMC on multiple occasions. Think DMC3, but Vergil remains a good guy.
The entire climax of this game is almost note for note the same as DMC3's.
Two of the main characters are sisters on extremely different paths thanks to an incident regarding their family, both having opposing color schemes and weapon types. Also, their father is a boss fight.
The main headquarters, while being under the guise of a theater, is actually mainly used as a hub that focuses on exterminating demons.
The game is very similar to DMC in terms of core gameplay, notably has members from the core DMC team and would introduce elements seen from DMC3 onward.
Read what I put for Nightmare Before Christmas, minus the staff part.
Itsuno probably read Bleach at one point and was like "I can do this with DMC." Explains a lot about DMC4 tbh.
Moustache Kid is straight up Vergil, but as a Brit.
This is just DMC3 if Dante and Vergil teamed up the entire game, and if it had a 1930s aesthetic and was made for children.
Um... it has Agni and Rudra. It has a DMC-esque ranking system. The final boss quotes Vergil. Plz unban me Dunc.
The series main characters are just color swapped Dante and Vergil. Straight up has a Dante costume based on his DMC1 appearance.
Dr. Tomoki is just Nelo Angelo.
