Despite the fact that the writing often feels a little trite and dull (the rhyming might get a little obnoxious at times), I still love this game; it's one of the coziest RPGs I've played and it manages to feel tinged with nostalgia without being too saccharine. The combat is just intricate enough to have plenty of depth through different side characters and equippable gems and unlike general menu combat, you're encouraged to keep track of the ongoing battle due to the combination of real time and turn based mechanics; the ability to interrupt your opponent and ensure that you don't get interrupted yourself allows for a lot more engagement. That said, Child of Light's strongest point is that the visuals and soundtrack are absolutely gorgeous. It really does look like an illustrated picture book, and I could put the controller down throughout the various environments and just listen to the tunes while life flew by. All in all, it definitely has its flaws, but it has very strong artistic merits. Why can't Ubisoft make a game as beautiful as this anymore?

Very charming game! It captures the feeling of a child's story in a way that doesn't feel flat or cringe like most other attempts at doing so. The combat is really unique and interesting, but I wish certain parts of it were balanced differently. It makes me want to play it like a party based rpg, but it's not really designed for that kind of play.

I just got bored of this very quickly, I'm not even entirely sure why. It just lost its grip on me.

Whether it be through the poetic storytelling, the hand drawn aesthetic or the stellar soundtrack Child of Light is an experience packed full of charm. The battle system is a tonne of fun, albeit a bit easy and the environments are a joy to explore. This is the perfect escape from the world and one of the reason why I love videogames.

One of the best games from Ubisoft, this is like a turn based rpg but that you can actually enjoy it, because you can control the flow of the battles by yourself, I really like the style and the music too. SOLID game

Started off fun but I quickly grew bored of it for some reason

Oh yes, a beautiful, fairytale-like platformer JRPG with wonderful music and a child-friendly yet exciting story. I really ought to play it again and it's certainly a good game to play with your own kids.

Jogo lindo, gostosinho e cheiroso. Não é a última bolacha do pacote, mas tá lá por perto

Excellent combat and character upgrading system

But holy christ
The entire game
THE ENTIRE GAME
is narrated in rhyming prose

It is very, very grating

Just not that fun at the end of the day. Story is a completely bland big-head scary-world fantasy sleepfest, and the fighting got old almost immediately. Did not finish

lindo jogo esquecido e subestimado, uma pena :(

Beautiful but boring
I'm sorry, i just could not bring my self to be interested in playing this, after coming back to it many times, i see a lot of people really like this game though so it'd be unfair for me to rate it low just because i didn't beat the game my self. The game has a cool ATB system and a skill tree, some neat exploration but... i just couldn't keep my attention, sorry.

Enjoyment - 7/10
Difficulty - 3/10

Gorgeous art and music. Playing in the moment was a joy. However, after a couple of days I forgot most of what happened in the game. Blame my old man brain if you want, but that's just what happened. Nonetheless, nice game that did some cool different things that I appreciated.
🏆

The rare Ubisoft passion project sneaking through in between major releases. Its hard to critique this outside of just saying "I wish this was a tiny bit cooler" - but who the fuck am I to say.

a fun, charming rpg even if the rhyming dialogue gets annoying after like 30 minutes

a sequel is needed as soon as possible 😔❤️❤️

I really love the cute rhyming story and the beautiful world you get to run around in.

But sadly I can just never stay engaged with turn-based stuff.

Child of Light is a total hidden gem. It looks like a watercolor painting brought to life, the music is gorgeous, and the story is surprisingly bittersweet. The turn-based combat feels unique and fun, and exploring the world of Lemuria is a joy. It might be a little short for some, and the rhyming dialogue can get a bit much at times, but honestly? This game is a beautiful and unique experience, and I recommend it to anyone who wants something a little different.

I'll start with the good
the battle system is unique and interesting
The art is beautiful
Unfortunately this game doesn't really have anything else going for it. The writing is abysmal (writing in rhyme doesn't make what your writing good) with your classic team of vagabonds on their way to collect the 3 magic macguffins with magic girl and her magic sword to end the darkness blah blah blah. It's all very cookie cutter and predictable. The combat feels fun and exciting until you realize that spamming the basic attack is just about as effective as any other spell or special attack. I do appreciate that buffs and debuffs break the conventional mold of damage/defense/health penalties and actually relate directly to the timeline. Plus interrupting someone is pretty fun. Outside of that the combat gets pretty stale pretty quickly which is a shame for something that had so much potential. This game is begging for deeper mechanics and equipment like item that aren't just permanent stat buffs or unexciting small percentage boosts. Exploring and puzzle solving are extremely lacking in depth with each obstacle being barely noticeable with the ability to fly and turn off hazards with the second player mechanic(it's required to use this even with only one player to it's not like I'm going out of my way to use it) puzzles all boil down to about 2 variations on the same "cast a shadow" mechanic introduced in the first level down to the final level. This game drags on too long and feels too samey. Barely worth checking out, there are so many other better RPGs our there

I like this game on paper more than in practice.

A storybook styled RPG game with Coeur de Pirate OST? Sign me up!!! Unfortunately, I had a hard time getting engaged with this one because the combat just didn't feel satisfying. Never quite clicked for me.

One of the few Ubisoft games that I actually enjoyed.

Artstyle is incredibly distinctive and fun (if a bit uh, too "indie", if you know what I mean).

The battle system is, SUPER unique and fun to play with! Being able to delay enemy turns so you can stagger them and have them lose their turn is super satisfying, I'm genuinely amazed with how much it kept me captivated throughout the game.

And the story... while a tad generic, is carried by some really fun party members and character writing!

This is a must-play for all RPG fans in my opinion and just, any fan of video games as a whole, it's such a comfy and joyous experience!

It's not bad, it's just kind of generic. Maybe it gets better or something?

i appreciate that this went for a whimsical children's fable vibe but this honestly comes across as unbearably mawkish and infantile. I wish this was more The Little Prince and less baby's first rhyming couplet. The combat is kind of clunky and tedious as well.

I love the illustrative artwork and coeur de pirate piano OST but feel very annoyed by pretty much everything else
