Parkour across buildings
Feels like sex
Grappling hook
Feels like cumming
But I bust no nuts
Only heads

Tried this since its currently free on the Epic Games store, and played a few hours but just couldn't get into it. What I did like was the parkour stuff which felt smooth most of the time and was a fun way to get around. I also liked that you level up the different skill trees independently of each other, such as doing parkour give you xp for the agility tree and killing zombies nets you xp for the combat tree. It was fun and I liked that when I leveled up I didn't have to choose which tree to invest in with a single skill point.

As for negatives, the story just felt very generic and that they were trying really hard to be edgy. You also get presented with morally ambiguous choices, but the game doesn't let you make any, as it plays out in a very linear fashion. The gameplay started out good but quickly just became frustrating. Weapons break after a several swings and you can only repair them a limited amount of times which means you can't get attached to specific weapons. And even when you upgrade the durability of weapons, it doesn't improve it by much. A lot of the gameplay design also feels ripped straight out of Far Cry as the game feels really unoriginal. Even the animation that plays when you loot enemies is exactly like the one in Far Cry 3 with the same money icons even.

The missions also get repetitive and there's a lot of, interact with this object otherwise more enemies will spawn in, which is just such outdated mission design. About the point I stopped was when I was being swarmed by human enemies who were all hitting me at once, while an NPC was screaming at me on the radio to hit the switch. At that point I was pretty much done.

Dying Light would be an ultra generic forgettable zombie game if it didnt have such great mobility and melee combat. In my book, melee combat is infinitely more satisfying than ranged when pulled off.

Dropkicking zombies off rooftops, setting traps and delivering beat downs with pipe wrenches makes for great single player fun, even if the story is as bland as it is.

Decided to revisit this a little after finishing the 2nd. Still really fun stuff

This game has so much going on. Amazing parkour, a neat crafting system, a really well-designed maps with traps, and a pretty decent hand-to-hand combat system. Because there is so much going on it can be a bit overwhelming and frustrating. If you stick with it, the game really does reward you with a really awesome experience

a half baked parkour system isn't enough to make up for the fact that this is essentially Techland making Dead Island for the third time with all of the shit gameplay that comes with it.

it's honestly impressive how little things across the game have improved from earlier efforts.

Borders on being a little too derivative for its own good in spots, and I really couldn't care less about its story or characters. BUT: kicking enemies in this game is a joy that's only bested by Dark Messiah.

Dying Light is absolutely worth playing, and doubly so if you just want to screw around and kill some zombies. Don't go in expecting a masterpiece; the story is uneven, the progression awkward, and the loot uninspired. But, GODDAMN, that dropkick feels good. If you own it already, or can find it cheap in a sale, fire this one up and go goof around in the zombie sandbox of Harran.

one of the coolest games ever. it somehow went under the radar for me for years but the combat, exploration, and movement are all fantastic. being able to experience this with up to 3 other friends is just the cherry on top. amazing experience

The Survival Horror in this game is great with you having to be constantly on the lookout for materials while also trying to be aware of your surroundings looking out for these zombies which are probably one of the scariest and best in gaming. Then you have the Fighting and Platforming which adds such a breath of fresh air to this genre with the player having the choice to either fight or flight in many different scenarios really having the player think in the moment. While exploring the Open World gives you these options, sadly the Action Adventure missions kinda forget about this philosophy and just puts you in these poorly done sequences were you are forced to either fight or flight removing the choices you had when exploring the Open World which is pretty annoying. So yeah that's my review, I'm going to be giving Dying Light a Plain 7 on the recommendation scale.

why do they give you a grappling hook that completely ruins the movement?
why is the final boss so bad?
and still, why is this the best parkour game ever made?

Dying Light is Techland's redemption at their previous zombie series, Dead Island. Whereas Dead Island provided often flawed, to the ground elements, Dying Light takes the fight to the skyscrapers and buildings of Harran -- a Middle Eastern styled city with plenty of parkour elements.

Dying Light is really a game that has always gone unappreciated. Never really winning any GOTY's or "Best Action" titles, despite how amazing this game was for a 2015 release. It pairs Mirror's Edge levels of parkour with Dead Island's hand-to-hand to create a dynamic adventure throughout.

The gameplay is buttery smooth, especially if playing on PC, unlocked. Flying through buildings, jumping off massive heights just to land on a padded blue cushion staged throughout the level, exploring at night and literally shitting your pants? This game has it all in that department, and there's nothing negative really to say in terms of gameplay.

The only thing that holds this game back is just a ridiculously terrible narrative and pacing issues. The beginning 3 hours is magnificent, as you're expected to do a lot of bone-chilling parkour just to keep your character, alive. Sadly, Crane's VA is just an average military sounding guy, as is his backstory. The plot has an attempted twist, but I think anyone playing the game would know that the government organization is never really the hero in any game, ever.

The villain is just stupidly cartoonish, and all the side quests lack value outside of going to someone's house, or checking in on them for a brief period only to find out, aaaagh! They're a zombie!

Overall, with a few tweaks, this game can shine brighter than Dead Island and most other zombie games. Hoping that 2 is more of the same!

Super fun, what more is there to say?

whoever thought that jack krauser cutscene from RE4 should be a final boss: fuck you

This would be an excellent 10 hour game, but instead it's a tedious 25-30 hour slog. Didn't touch any of the DLC, and I'm going to have to wait until the bile raised by that dreadful last 3 hours goes away before I even think about playing the sequel.

If you want to enjoy it, play co-op with a friend of yours.

Dying Light seems to really strike a chord for a lot of people, given how much longevity the game has had after its initial release, but it didn't grip me in that same way. I didn't find the parkour as compelling as I expected, the combat (when necessary) was frustrating because of incredibly tanky enemies, and the plot was fairly generic with no real memorable characters. That said, I still did enjoy my time with it, as it does have some cool ideas (the day/night cycle, actually feeling like a survival game in an apocalypse) and a fairly fun gameplay loop, I just don't see myself diving deep into it like many others have.

The story wasn't really interesting and the game itself could get very boring very quick, but dropkicking zombies off a roof into oblivion was so satisfying that I just kept playing, also a perfect game to play when listening to a podcast

The graphics are beautif ul

This game is so good that it ruined both Dead Island games. Not only takes the best parts of DI and improves upon them, but the game is also the home of the best, most fun and most fluid freerunning/parkour I've seen in a game thus far, and while the story is still nothing even remotely worth writing home about, it's a suitable catalyst for the core gameplay.

The movement worked really well and kept the gameplay engaging. The story was decent as well.

Replayed it recently, after playing the sequel. Now I understand how incredibly good the game was (especially for 2015), and how mediocre and soulless was the sequel.

imagine a game in which the main story sucks, and yet it still manages to create and atmosphere and world that truly conveys the apocalyptic scenario of Dying Light.
this, among the visceral combat and liberating parkour makes the game truly unique, and while it has its set-backs, it's truly a game worth playing, even just for the gameplay.

Completely and utterly burned out on The Open World Formula, even with the tone this has. Great freerunning system, too bad the gameplay loop wants you to stop regularly to loot/lockpick boxes on rooftops and balconies so often. Also has great lighting. Probably more appealing before the gross saturation of the open world formula happened.

Also native linux version is broken lol. Run it through Proton.

Really fun parkour/action game. Replayable beyond relief.
