generally easy, but still enjoyable. introduced some new and interesting mechanics I really wanted

Best story presentation in the series, and among the best story wise. From that alone I highly recommend it. The gameplay is a little different from most FE games playing much more into the RPG elements of the series.

woo the map design is ass ESPECIALLY FOR CELICAS ROUTE >:(

Pretty good. The cantors are a bit annoying though.

My favorite fire emblem game and in my top ten games ever. I feel like the presentation of the series peaked here even though we’re on home consoles and this is a 3ds game. I wonder if they’ll ever remake an older fire emblem in this style again because I reminisce about this all the time it felt perfect to me

the story and the mechanics really worked well with me, plus I really love faye btw did you know I love faye

I wish Echoes' characters were in a different game, they don't deserve being stuck here

Considering Gaiden isn't all that good, Shadows of Valentia does a decent job

The artstyle, voice acting, and soundtrack are all amazing. This really elevates an otherwise basic story, and made me invested.

Maps are quite bad. Alm's are just open fields, and Celica's were designed by a masochist. This is largely due to Gaiden rather than Echoes, but it's still a negative.

The character writing and story is okay? Alm is weird. A common farm boy who fights back against Rigel to liberate Zofia. Seems endearing enough, but he doesn't face any issues. He's immediately handed the deliverance despite his age and inexperience, he steamrolls the Rigelian army, marches up to Rigel Castle, destroys them, and then kills god.
Seems unrealistic for a farmboy, until you realize he's the chosen one with a special brand, special sword, and ability to make the right choice at every given turn, while Celica struggles. Him secretly being the heir to the throne of Rigel just magnifies his writing issues more.

Celica is the opposite, she spends the whole game running around and failing at everything. She sacrifices herself for nothing because she trusted a purple gremlin, and needs Alm to save her. Her character is also hard to describe, she's cold and distant, but also empathetic and kind? She's just kind of boring to me on top her bad writing.

Anyways, I've done enough to piss of the SoV fans now. Despite the characters getting nerfed, all other aspects are done really well, so the game was enjoyable overall.

i love the soundtrack, characters, and story but honestly pretty weak gameplay wise... i get it's a remake but wtf are some of those maps...

Some well designed maps and decent story. Having the two different parties allowed for more characters to get their chance to shine on the battlefield. The actual unit types didn’t seem very balanced and I eventually benched a chunk of the cast and started wrecking enemies. Despite some parts of the map being too vulnerable to repetitive random battles, I liked the game. All complaints are minor. I’d like to see an expansion of some ideas here, with more fleshed out dungeons being a main one. Simplistic story is a strong point.

This is a pretty decent entry for what seemed to be a series dedicated to Fire Emblem remakes.

My favorite part about this game is the art style. The game looks very beautiful and has my favorite character portraits of any Fire Emblem game. The character designs look amazing, especially considering how newer Fire Emblem games have been lacking in this department in my opinion.

I also find the writing pretty solid. The kingdoms of Rigel and Zofia are very fascinating, and having you switch between Alm and Celica throughout the game truly compares and contrasts not only their characters, but the nations they personify.

I find the characters' writing themselves to be a mixed bag. Without spoiling anything, some major plot details made me much more disappointed in how some characters were developed. The female characters in particular struggle from a damsel-in-distress syndrome that the original game had. I wish that the writers had polished a lot of the character endings. Being a remake of an older game, this would've given the developers an opportunity to improve upon some of the original game's weaker writing. We already see it with Leon now being written as a gay character to improve portrayal of LGBT+ characters in the series, so I don't understand why the remake retains the original game's poor portrayal of female characters.

I found the maps in this game to be so-so, and none of them were truly memorable for me. I did enjoy traversing through dungeons however.

And so there's Shadows of Valentia, the first and only entry in the Echoes series so far. Unfortunately, some people theorize that due to poor sales, we've never had another Echoes game since. It's a shame, as it's a solid game in spite of its flaws and can be enjoyed by newer and older fans alike.

Such a weird FE game. Didn't mind the deviations from the usual formula, such as dungeon crawling, AS calculation, weapon arts, learning spells, etc. And DEFINITELY didn't miss reinforcements. Presentation was amazing as well, loved having all characters fully voiced and the voicework overall was great. But those awful, generic maps really hurt the game. As did the lack of enemy variety and the trash mobs the game throws at you. Definitely a standout FE game, but not one of the better ones

It's crazy. In Fire Emblem Fates, Intelligent Systems made a game where you skip the story and play the game. And now, they made a game where you watch the story and wish you could skip the game. At least you can cheese most of it, and Berkut's VA is amazing.

I dunno how to describe this game better. Are there narrative issues? Yes. Does it hold up on a gameplay front? I'd say so, but it's probably not everyone's cup of tea. Still, I have yet to find an experience with a game that tops this one.

The voice acting is actually fucking good lol. The maps on Celica’s route kinda blow ass. Generally not a fan of her route compared to alms but like cmonnnnn it’s like Star Wars

Pretty good game, didn't play the original. A bit boring story-wise at the beginning. So much so that I dropped the game and months later forced myself to pick it back up just to finish it. Once I got through the beginning the story picked up and intrigued me. The combat is solid, as well as the maps from what I can remember. There were some obtuse things every now and then enemy/map-wise where it felt like I needed to cheese the game to get further, but I could be remembering wrong.
Berkut was a weird character. Heard he was not in the original, and I cannot see exactly why he was added in the remake, but ah well.
I do like how Alm and Celica don't see eye to eye mid-way through the game and go their separate ways to save their continent.
I did not care for the 3D exploration/dungeon segments of the game. Wish it was not in it to begin with.

One of my favorite games from the fire emblem series. It has a good story and introduces a few great new characters that were absent from the original Fire Emblem: Gaiden. Its main problems are the map design and relative lack of replayability. The maps are modernized but still very large, so you often end up running towards enemies for the first few turns.

Story is fantastic, characters are lovable, graphics are gorgeous, and as a bonus, everything is voiced by some of the greatest English voice acting I've ever heard in a game!

story is one of the best in the series and the presentation is beautiful the only bad thing about this game is the combat and map design but other than that its amazing

I love almost everything about this game. The story, the characters, the music, the art, and the voice acting are all phenomenal and some of the best in the franchise from what I've played. However, the maps aren't greatly designed and gets repetitive towards the end. But in the end, I still like this game.
