Played this for about 3 hours before deciding I was done with it. The game really doesn't have any of the visual flair that something like Vampire Survivors does or the speed. I did not care for the auto attack and active attacking in a game like this feels antithetical towards why I'm playing it. The art direction is so unfocused while obviously riffing on Hades to the point that generic knight man was the only one of the three characters I played that I thought looked good. Also wtf is with the Assassin lady talking like she's in a chatroom? Idk but I never vibed with it too much.
The presentation for this game is great. Really reminiscent of Hades with the different gods sometime paying you a visit when you level up. The pixel art visuals ar also stunning. Sadly the game lacks a lot of content. There's currently only one level and I'd argue that most characters play the same.
I'm already predisposed to not enjoy Survivor Arena games after like half an hour of gameplay, this one got especially boring with how much it tries to ape from Hades. I'm not against games taking obvious inspiration from others, but when you sculpt so much of your creation around one without that model's incredibly cohesive characters and storyline, you're just left with a dead husk of an experience

For an early-access title, this game has an overwhelming amount of potential. As a Diablo II/Hades fan, I want nothing more than to see this game succeed with its full release.
The following content update is projected for Q1 2024, so I will likely update my review when I get my hands on it.

Certainly a more Hades-like RPG than the other bullet-hell auto rogues, this concept is interesting indeed with the new elements. It's terribly hard at the start, and it may take you a while to break the twenty minute mark. Some negatives stand out, such as several of the characters being too similar, only having one playing field, and a few Steam Joypad control issues, but otherwise it's a good use of your time. Let's see where this goes in the future.

Decent horde battler game! I love this genre a lot and can find some really neat ones here and there. This one has good variety in characters, skill tree and challenges. Regularly updated on top of that. I think the difficulty may scare some people away, but I'm enjoying the challenge. There is a bit of emptiness I can't quite describe. There is something missing from this title. It still feels a bit half-baked. Hope future updates will make this thing feel more alive. Anyway. Decent, 3.5/5
Death Must Die is Vampire Survivors meets Diablo 2 meets Hades and that is as potent a combination as it sounds. I was instantly hooked but quickly fell off due to a feeling of stagnation in progression. I really struggled to get past the 10 minute mark with the vast majority of my runs which resulted in me running the first bit over and over again. Since there’s only 1 map and maybe a half dozen boons per god, I quickly felt like I had seen most of what the game had to offer in its current state. Sadly, I found the personalities and dialogue of the gods to be much lacking in comparison to what Hades set forth as the standard. Let's face it, Supergiant is hard to compete with but, since the game mimics that style so heavily, it’s basically begging to draw the comparison. Very much looking forward to checking this out after it’s fleshed out into a full release because it definitely showed potential.
Will probably change my rating as more content gets added. The core mechanics are fun, the run variety isn't quite there yet to capitalize on it. I am much more excited for more gods than I am for more heros.
The loot system is okay, I am not a huge fan of diablo-like loot grinding but the permutations it can add is nice, I just wish that it was a little more streamlined. Sorting through loot after a run is the worst part of the experience.
Excited to see what the developer has in store, but I can't say whats here now is particularly worth playing.

✔️ Played on Steam Deck, it works fine (15/01/2024).
So far it looks nice, it's entertaining and it has good replayability value. It needs a bit of polishing imo: the characters don't really have much uniqueness to them, most of the time you can play the same build with any of them and it will feel the same. There's also some builds that are clearly out performing the rest ([spoiler] Curse/Time/Justice mainly[spoiler]).
Also, I don't think it's a good idea to use emotes and abbreviated writing in the dialogue as a way of giving characters some sort of personality since not everyone that plays the game is familiar with the expressions/ internet slang and it looks like a pain for later localization/translation while trying to keep the essence of the character's personality.
