My first playthrough of Metroid game. It was a fun adventure exploring almost every secret that I could find. Also a fantastic remake.

The most vanilla "Metroidvania experience".

Started with this game to metroid franchise and all I can say that this game is... exists. It's not a full hate or love situation. It's the kind that after you played it kinda goes away (except it's epilogue part that I am going explain at the end) kinda similar to my zelda ocarina of time experience.

So this game is the Remake of Metroid 1 From Nes with the abilities that included from Metroid fusion with some little tweaks from what I understand. Not just that it does have new expanded areas and new bosses. It's a great look at first glance.

But problem is this is the remake of Metroid 1. What I mean is new additions really doesn't change your experience entirely most of the time. For example fusion's added powers rarely used for main progression, they are mostly for side collectibles (that demands pixel perfect timing from you for some reason? And that makes me unable to fully complete this game).

Even the added bosses feels... inconsequential. The bosses are like... here I am I guess? Then you obliterate them in seconds because they really are not balanced for your new power ups for some reason.

Not just that map feels a bit uninspired. Here is your lava zone, grass zone, sand zone etc. I barely remember any of them except the epilogue and that's not a good sign in my opinion.

Also it's quite linear. Not as much as the fusion but it's still is with the chozo statues marking your map so you can progress (I know you can get past them with some glitches but I am talking about the vanilla experience). I guess that's because they do this to make sure people on the right path because sometimes that marked locations can be completely opposite part of the map that you can't have any idea to check. But they could make it more organic rather than this... easy way out.

After beating the mother brain with almost sleep walking throughout in the whole game suddenly a new part kicks in that is exclusive to this game. The "epilogue".

It's a quite a linear part that challenges you with "stealth" after taking all of your powers. But unlike the main game it actually does something different and it's certain that all of the development went to this part because there is actually things to get excited about and getting actually challenged.

Just for this epilogue part reason I don't give this game 2 stars with the comment that you can skip this one, I mean you can still skip it if you want with looking up the epilogue but it's your decision. Anyway even with the epilogue I can't say I had a fully good time as a whole and for that reason I ended up with this thoughts.

But I can say this.. next remake that I had played created by a fan includes much more interesting things than this game. That's all I can say.

Very good looking game with fun mechanics and movement that feels great until you compare it to the more "modern" titles but even then still a good time. The mechanics at times can be a little frustrating but it gets a pass because it is a lot of fun and the extra content versus the original was a lot of fun. Very easy to finish on a lazy Saturday and seems like it would be a very fun game to master and get all the endings for definitely on the list of things to come back to in the future.

Better than Metroid Fusion for just aesthetics alone! I am torn between this and Super Metroid as some of the best Metroidvania games. With that said I don't consider myself a Metroid fan and I don't know why! I know they're good games, but they never hooked me!

Wish they'd never made Zero Suit Samus. Then I would be able to feel joy. Or pain. Instead I am overcome by a numbness.

Восхитительная. Богоподобная. Невероятная. Шикарная.

Played it in 2021 and it still holds up. These games are just timeless and will always play great. Really hard at times, but would recommend to anyone that likes the genre!

best way to play the original Metroid story imo

the mother brain fight nearly ended me but the final escape mission brought me back to life through sheer adrenaline

getting the fully upgraded suit and blasting through the ship has to be one of the most satisfying moments in gaming I've had recently

Fantastic reworking of an originally not so fantastic game. Breathes so much life into the original Metroid.

just like super metroid, need to replay it to appreciate it better

this game is tight and it makes me tight. atmosphere is still amazing and world design is pretty great with it being a remake of metroid 1, tons of memorable moments and brilliantly designed areas which feel like individual levels like fusion without the more closed off and dense design of fusion which i really like. this game has the best use of cutscenes in any game ive ever played, each of them are no longer than 15 seconds and yet are the hardest cutscenes i've ever seen, none of them are useless and give you information you wouldn't have had otherwise or introducing an area brilliantly. im sorry but just look up these cutscenes i love them (intro especially). Game is pretty short but also has a clear structure up untill you beat mother brain, and when it does switch up, its a well designed subversion of traditional metroid gameplay that won't be brought up until Dread. bosses are a low point for me, either go down in 5 seconds or are very frustrating with either a bunch of stuff on screen (mother brain) or a very small and tiny lil hurt box (mecha-ridley). I played this on emulator with an xbox one controller and 1st off, dont play this with a stick or bad d-pad, 2nd off, the GBA doesn't have enough buttons for good metroid with the controls being kinda clumsy sometimes. What hurts the game possibly the most due to the GBA is the screen size, constant enemies or platforms slightly off screen making it often for you to just run into them or have to guess where platforms are offscreen.
some problems when playing but looking back at this will make it look flawless, but stand strong, because the mind focuses on survival beyond all, and will help you forget bad things to help you move on, but I say to never forget.

A great remake of the original Metroid that completely replaces it in my mind. The original game is a huge pain to play these days. The addition of some new gameplay that takes place after the point where the original game ends is cool.

Pretty fun game that doesn't take too much time, good balance to when you get your upgrades. I love when all the unusable upgrades you picked up earlier all get activated at once and you feel super powerful right at the end

Recently did a Hard Mode 100% run and since I didn’t write anything about this game before I am now.

What else can be said about Zero Mission? It’s one of the all time great remakes. Metroid 1 is a game I love but it was really held back by its hardware. It’s weird though because Super Metroid is already kind of a remake?

The thing that makes Zero Mission stand out and probably what most people remember is the zero suit section. It’s divisive for sure but I think it’s really neat and unexpected on a first playthrough. Especially for those who had finished the original. On repeat playthroughs it is kind of just tedious. And I can safely say on hard mode it’s just kind of bullshit. You die in like 3 hits. Getting the full suit and blasting through pirates is really empowering though.

From a Hard Mode 100% perspective I had a good time. The shinespark puzzles were fun to execute. The game is still a breeze though. Only challenge was zero suit and mecha Ridley.

Overall I love this game. It’s pretty short but sometimes all I want is some bite size Metroid.

Played on Analogue Pocket

Stellar remake of the first game that puts it on par with Super, and potentially even passes it in some aspects. It just feels good to move around and play with Samus' toolkit.

Eu me diverti com o jogo, achei legar,

Metroid Zero Mission - The Pur-Zero Suit of Happiness
When compared to this game, the original NES Metroid looks like a failed prototype, as this here is a complete reimagining of the original narrative, that improves upon it in every single way, and goddamn is it refreshing.

Better controls, detailed visuals, improved soundtrack, quality of life enhancements, a map, a clearer story, and even some new original content to go along with the narrative. I was pleasantly surprised at the care that went into this. Just upgrading your suit piece by piece activates my little ape brain and keeps that drive to explore constantly. I also personally enjoy the puzzle-solving aspect, as some of these puzzles require a bit more critical thinking, for sure. And it's all made miles easier with the map and the fact that the game attempts to nudge players in the correct direction. This Metroid story is playable now, and it's great.

HOWEVERー it's not without its flaws. There is classical Metroid bullshit, as one may call it, scattered throughout. Sometimes it can still be a little unclear as to what to do such as when to move to another room you have to interact with a specific thing that is hidden and has basically no way indicating that it is unique. Also, the way bosses scale is sorta insane. It starts off with, albeit unique, quite easy boss fights, and then it ends with two of the most tedious fucking boss fights ever. Some of these boss attacks are either way too inconsistent to be able to be dodged predictably, are spammed like crazy to where dying and doing it all over again becomes tedious rather than a neat challenge, or are unforgiving as SHIT and must be executed almost frame-perfectly.

That, or maybe I just need to get better, but even with the ability to rewind and use save states via emulation (I have no shame whatsoever), these were some of the hardest bosses in the series, even if the game now has opportunities to save progress constantly. So consider that if you’re a more casual player I suppose.

Either way, if you really wanna get into the Metroid series, and also don’t mind a few, ‘close up shots’ of Zero Suit fan service, this game is a great start.
SOLID 7 Super Missiles out of 10.

Not much to really say about this one. Very fun game and a classic of the genre. Short and sweet, the new stuff added on at the end are a pretty cool change of pace.

For my money, the best entry-point for any potential Metroid fan to cut their teeth on. This was the first game in the series I ever played, so going back and completing it in full this time was a fantastic full-circle moment. Compared to the original, this is a far easier game to love, with its QoL improvements and updated visual palate bringing a whole new life to the experience compared to Spartan efficacy of the first Metroid's aesthetics. Even the boss fights have been improved, and the new inclusions are mechanically fresh enough to feel like worthy adversaries.

I feel a little mixed on the new Zero Mission epilogue, but the overall impression is mostly positive. Taking a new angle to the Metroid formula with a pseudo-stealth section is a great idea on paper, and tonal switch-up that came with the new section is certainly a welcome one. I just found the encounter design to be a little wonky, almost as if the developers hadn't quite nailed the flow of some of the rooms before dropping the enemies in.

Still, this is absolutely a major jewel in Metroid's legendary crown and a sterling example in how to remake a classic game right.

With my brother constantly on my ass about playing a Metroid game I finally caved in with zero mission and I enjoyed it a lot! The graphics are great, the music is awesome and memorable and the gameplay flow feels great. The bosses are freaky, huge and fun. And the planet zebus is cool to explore. It took me a bit to complete but I've seen people beat this game in an hour which Is awesome. Definitely play this as your first Metroid game if your into retro games

Holy crap this was good! The art and music are beautiful, and I loved the cutscenes, they made me hyped for what was coming. Very fun, short and sweet metroidvania. Played the game on normal difficulty and can't say I really had any trouble until they introduced the Metroids. The whole area leading up to the "final boss" almost felt like survival horror, the way they made you rush a lot of rooms in a row without allowing you to rest. THE MOTHER BRAIN FIGHT MADE ME SCREAM

The whole endgame area was super cool, and suddenly it becomes stealth game. It wasn't even in the NES original as far as I know. I really liked the hiding mechanic and chase sequences. When you finally get your suit back, you feel so goddamn frickin' powerful. This was my first time playing a Metroid game, and I have a feeling I'm gonna love this series.

Absolutely incredible, this is my second favorite Metroid game for sure (under Dread). I remember having a few “Metroid Moments” but they don’t stick out hard enough as having been too frustrating like some of the other games have. I love the boss fights, the world design, and the postgame story. I’m not sure why but I simply really love the progression of items and exploration in this one, more than even Super Metroid. I’d honestly say this is THE Metroid game to play first, even aside from Super or Dread. The postgame story is very fun too, expanding on Samus' origins and offering some tense gameplay. THIS is how you remake and reimagine a classic game that didn’t stand the test of time as well.
