Another great Metroid title, especially when considering that they turned the original Metroid into something actually enjoyable to play, while still being mostly faithful to the source. The new bosses put in were all pleasant surprises and enjoyable to fight. Wasn't crazy about the post-Mother Brain content, as I'm not a fan of 'Zero Suit' Samus, but it make for a kickass moment when you get the suit back.
has there ever been a metroid game more replayable than this? i cannot fathom for the life of me why i ever used to dislike this game when so much of it is refined and brilliant. everything in the game has been considered for sequence breaking and minimalist runs, resulting in a tightly designed game that rewards skill and knowledge. it's a genuine shame that we're likely never going to see another 2D metroid game like this ever again, because this did so much with so little.
I just don't like this one. It's not bad, but it's my least favorite. The world design is great, but it feels too swayed in the direction of sequence breaking and that puts me off. I don't struggle with going fast in this game, infact, I've done speeruns many times, but on a casual level, I find this game to be very dull honestly. I think the lack of proper Metroid atmosphere really screws this game over. The areas are too bright, colorful, and it just doesn't feel isolating. The zero suit samus section is fun on a first run, but boring on subsequent runs, which this game highly encourages you do. I'm not a fan honestly, which upsets me because it has the control to make it self the perfect metroid game.
The original Metroid has been obliterated by the passage of time and in many ways needed a remake. Zero Mission delivers everything you've come to aspect from a Metroid game, great atmosphere, tight gameplay, memorable moments/set pieces, thrilling boss fights and a incredible sense of discovery. Even when you think the game's finished, it throws you a curve ball. It doesn't reach the heights of Super Metroid but it's very Very close. I'll defiantly be replaying this one.
