I bounced off this pretty hard when I originally tried it years ago. I've never really been into Diablo style ARPGs and this was the first game of that type that I spent a good chunk of time with.
During that first go with it, I was expecting "ARPG" to mean something like Dark Souls, where player mastery can make up for lacking gear or character builds, and I was let down by the comparative mindlessness.
This time around I found a lot more to like, especially when I realized the format of the game is best played from the perspective that the character you are building is less a representation of yourself and more like an automated monster slaying engine that requires very little input. Approaching it that way, I enjoyed it a lot more, treating it like a Cookie Clicker sort of low input dopamine generator.
Still, there just wasn't enough engagement to keep me invested past Act 1 and I probably won't be picking it back up again, but I am glad to finally get some more insight on the appeal of this sort of game.

THE BEST HACK AND SLASH GAME ALL OF TIME FOR ME!
I am an old and experienced player in the Hack&Slash game genre. I wanted to comment on this game that I've been playing for years and played the original game and its expansion pack for thousands of hours.
Titan Quest, the ancestor of Grim Dawn, is a legend that never gets old with its atmosphere and some features ahead of its time.
This game was once the best Hack and Slash game. It is considered one of the best these days. Unfortunately the game has lost a bit of time but it still feels unique and great.
-Hybrid class system.
-Passive abilities have animations.
-Appearance of armor and weapons that can drop on mobs.
-The only Hack&Slash with many different Mythology and historical themes.
-Being the only Hack&Slash with unique voiceovers.
There is even more, but these features do not end with writing. That's why I recommend this game for all Hack&Slash fans.

This game is a good simple arpg with a great setting it being ancient Greece Egypt, The East but also Atlantis and the north which are the dlcs (haven't played eternal embers yet) with the appropriate accurate mythological settings in each like viking lore with Asgard or Olympus in ancient Greek mythology you can play in three difficulties unlocking them for each character as you finish the previous one and you redo the story only this time harder but with better loot. Eternal embers is only available in legendary. I recommend playing through the game in normal first and going through the difficulties to experience the whole game and not choose to create a lvl 40 or 70 character because you won't understand what's happening.
A satisfying experience with varying landscapes that explores World mythology. I genuinely had a lot of fun playing this due to player progression being paced well. Seeing the amount of specializations available made me start a second play through just to see whats possible. There is nothing groundbreaking about Titan Quest, but there is enough there to have fun.
Never played the original, so this was my first experience with this game.
It's great. Titan Quest shows it's age, but even dated aspects like the UI or some systems never get in the way of fun. The build diversity is deep and allows for some of the best customization the genre has to offer.
Every fan of ARPGs should give it a try.

Titan Quest Anniversary Edition is a classical age themed action RPG, it was first released during the mid 2000's only to be re-released a decade later with a bunch of quality of life improvements, regular patches and even new expansions impressively enough. Also, the base game now includes the 4th act which used to be an expansion.
The game is kind of slow initially so there's very little reason to play at the default game speed. Some other aspects about the experience remain equally antiquated despite the updates. The upside is that build variety is very high and probably one of the main selling points of the game, the player can combine any 2 masteries of their choice and wield any equipment they find, granted they have the stats to do so.
I believe the setting is another selling point since it's rather uncommon for the genre or video games in general in all honesty. The lore is fairly accurate too, even if it mostly stays on the background.
Overall, Titan Quest is a solid addition to the genre. The post game adds some new bosses and such, but it's also a huge grind which I don't feel like going through, but I can see why some people would.

As someone who wasn't around for the CRPG boom of the 90s and 2000s this genre is one that is totally lost on me but I still managed to get really absorbed in this game. Maybe about 6 hours in there seems to be quite a difficulty spike but maybe you were just supposed to grind XP and I wasn't really aware. Who knows.
Some of the most fun character class diversity I've ever played
