what the fuck is the point of this. WHAT IS HAPPENING

Pretty interesting that there was a remake of a 3D fighter into a 2D one. It plays okay, jumping is a bit too floaty. Looks great though!

The Sega Mega Drive port of this game is quite impressive, but also makes me wonder... why?

Oh well, it's something that exists.

This is NOT Virtua Fighter 2 like in the arcades. It’s heavily stripped down and terribly easy. Still, it does look great on the Genesis. Played on Switch Online

I was so confused that there was a 16 bit version of this game lmao - it was fine I guess? idk lol

Making a 16 bit port of a game franchise that was specifically made to show off 3D technology is such a strange decision.

Why does this even exist? The point of Virtua Fighter was to prove to be one of the earliest (and kinda clean tbh) 3D fighting games that preceded even fucking Tekken. Did this necessarily had to do a 2D take? Then fine: it didn't land.

This was alright. Movement felt a bit clunky.

Even as a kid I knew having "Virtua" in your title and giving you ...this... was wrong.

Virtua Fighter 2 on the Mega Drive...it was extremely dire. Absolutely a game that everyone should avoid. One question about this: why did this game, a 3D fighting game, deserve a 2D version on the Mega Drive? And why did this get placed on NSO? This game is terrible...the Mega Drive version that is.

Was breezing through Arcade Mode until suddenly Jeffry happened. That guy's tough as nails!

Like plenty of other NSO fighting game fodder, this is fine! And nothing more!

Starting in 2021 with the PS4 release of 5 Ultimate, Virtua Fighter became this funny running gag with a subset of my friends. With the lingering effects of the pandemic still mostly keeping our schedules light, we dedicated Wednesdays to getting together in a lobby and playing Virtua Fighter 5. This barely lasted for very long, but was fun while it lasted, and makes for some great memories.

We tried to relive this energy with a few rounds of VF2 on Mega Drive after playing Streets Of Rage 1, and I immediately had my mind plunged back into the dark days of playing this shit on the Mega Drive PSP Collection while upstairs in my dad's terrible old house at the age of around 7. Some ports of games onto weaker hardware can be impressive. Some are Virtua Fighter 2 on Mega Drive.

thanks to Angel_Arle for informing me this version was moved to its own page heres that "review" i had but again

(sega mega drive & genesis classics 48/58)

now i'm no fighting game expert but really i see no reason to play this version over any of the other ones

I'll be honest, I played this game on Switch Online and used the rewind feature to beat Akira's path. Pretty cool fighting game, though!

Words cannot describe how much I screamed seeing the new titles added notification on the Switch Online Mega Drive pack, and seeing that blank cover art slowly turning to reveal this (Lil B voice) CLASSIC.
