second most-quotable video game of all time

The base game is fun but the real game was joining a 64 player modded server and being a single cog in zombie war machine

based game but sequel is better

WHAT'S THAT SPELL?

LOADSAMONEY!

(PROB'LY)

This game always seemed like it was five years old the instant it came out.

Decides to look at the Wikipedia article
Lmao no fuckin way.

"Like Red Orchestra, this game also began development as a Unreal Tournament 2004 mod, later becoming a standalone retail title."

Anyway it was okay I guess, but it was way grinder than me or my friends wanted to play, so I leveled a couple classes on some cheat server at some point.

People who criticise this game because the characters in this game are South Londoners don't know what they're talking about. That's what makes this game so great.

On a more serious note, I actually liked this game quite a lot although it's one of those things where it clearly was just barely modified off of the Unreal Engine. Even the full game has a very mod like feel to it - although it's definitely a very functional co-op shooter game, and something that I got a great kick out of playing. Just the personality involved and the ability to mow down hoards of monsters with a shotgun blast is really satisfying, although it definitely has a very grinding multiplayer feel towards it.

It's the kind of thing that I felt is really best-suited towards way-too-online teenagers with way too much time on their hands, and I was definitely one of them when I played this game. Nothing really more to it than just blasting away waves and waves of enemies - but then there definitely is a gory, visceral satisfaction to it, especially when you pop enemies heads off in this one.

More characters should use the word 'div' as an insult in video games, to be honest.

Fun with friends but not sure it has aged well but still has a charm to it. Does get repetitive after a while

amazing horde based survival game

Love this game. It has certainly not aged well and it’s more or less dead now. Guns feel really nice to use and there is a lot of variety in weapons and maps. Working together as a team on high difficulties is insanely fun and I wish I could still do it today. Zed ai is super simple but it lets players learn the game to a science. I fondly remember learning tech on test map servers and learning strategies on different maps. The grind to level up classes is a huge filter, unfortunately, and takes far too long.

It's very meh. Just play L4D2 or CoD Zombies instead.

this game is old in a bad way in a good way

I love some mindless zombie killin'. Half a star off because the experience is entirely dependent on the players you randomly match with online, unless you have a legit crew.

It's a fun wave defense game. The sequel is better now but this is still a perfectly fine game to play and some interesting maps especially when it comes to custom ones.

The old shoots on zombies with the gang.

There was a brief period in this game's update history that it was perfect. I had so much fun, then they did more updates and it got a fair amount worse. Oh well, was fun while it lasted!

Really dated. Just proceed into playing the second part

Every time Luke heals me I get butterflies in my tummy.

It´s like a time-travel machine.

"A Decent Co-op Zombie Shooter, But With Barely A Playerbase Left"

A nearly ten year old game, I went in expecting Killing Floor to have no available servers to play on. I was surprised to find a decent amount of activity, though there were still only a few servers that actually had decent ping for my location. I joined a few to check the game out and what it had to offer.

This game is pretty much a zombie wave-defense game, focusing on specific classes/roles that each player can decide on. Its a bit more nuanced than basic zombie-focused modes like in the Call of Duty series, but still revolves around the same basic goal.

I didn't really get a chance to dive deep in terms of seeing what each class had to offer, but it seemed to be mostly based around specified stat boosts for certain types of weapons. It seemed interesting at first, but the selection of weapons is pretty small and I didn't actually feel like I was any different than anyone else around me other than my few stats.

The graphics are okay, with some nice ambient lighting in some areas, and the designs of the maps are dark and creepy. The monster designs are pretty spooky as well!

The sound design is also fair, though a bit annoying in that I had to constantly reset my settings after every match. The same goes for mouse sensitivity, which also continued to return to an extremely high setting after each new match.

Teamwork was pretty minimal, mostly consisting of being around each other and covering one another. I'm sure the community used to be alive and well before the sequel came out, so much of the core experience may be found in the other game.

Overall, while I enjoyed the simplicity of the game and some of its ideas, its much too underpopulated for anyone to really play anymore. I'm eager to check out the sequel, which hopefully built more on top of what this game had to offer. I would Not Recommend purchasing this game, unless you're already a big fan of the sequel, but there is a lot of DLC to buy for this one as well, which may have some feeling like they aren't getting the entire experience.

Final Verdict: 5/10 (Average)

Probably my favourite wave-based survival game. LODSAMONEY
