I love this game. I have a lot of nostalgia for the original, so seeing everything with a fresh coat of paint, as well as the two new abilities, was so cool. I thought I wouldn't like the game as much this time around, especially since it's the first time I've played it single player, but I still love it. My only major disappointment is that there's no online multiplayer for the main story. Huge missed opportunity there.

everything a remaster should be and more! and i'm not even finished yet...

...i love kirby

Familiar, joyful adventuring elevated by Magalor's Epilogue and Magoland. I'm actually stunned by how wonderful the overarching package is and the amount of work put in to make this more than just a port

An updated version of my favorite kirby game with more content, this is an easy recomendation and is the best kirby game on switch hands down. Sand Kirby OP

Return to dreamland still remains my 3rd favorite kirby game after playing the remaster, but man it was a fun romp to revisit and explore all the new additions. Magolor remains one of my favorite kirby characters, too. The remaster's aesthetic and art design is super pleasing to look at, and is a huge update to the original wii game. They added so many modes such as Magolor's epilogue, subgames and more. Ultra abilities remain awesome, and the addition of sand and mecha were really fun. A great kirby game for all fans, and a great remaster filled with tons of content. A kirby game that should be on everyone's switch library!

Came back with some new bells and whistles, and was still a great and fun time. New modes to expand the length, new dialogue in some cases, and a whole new epilogue. It's definitely a classic game that I'm glad is back in the spotlight.

Also, Magolor deserves to be in Smash as a playable character more than Bandana Waddle Dee. Boom. Send tweet.

Its a baby 2d platformer, but its cute and short. 2

Honestly not the biggest Kirby fan. Love the character and love 64 and Super Star. I heard good things about this game! I didn’t play it on the 3ds and I heard they added some cool features to the switch version! So I boot it up and fell in love with it… for the first world. The music was catchy and I enjoyed having these super power ups that wipe a whole screen! It was fun! Then world 2 came and it was much of the same until the final couple worlds to be honest. The game went from fun to a slog really quick! I beat the game and unlocked extra mode and just couldn’t play it anymore. I know Kirby games are known for being very easy and this one is no exception. But I’ve played games that are easy but fun. I just didn’t have fun. Now the mini games they added were really fun!!! Kind of like the Pokémon stadium mini games. I loved the mini games and unlockable masks but that’s it. I regret playing this game as it feels like I wasted my time. As a man of 34 who loves games I’m learning to value my time. Play games that are good and don’t waste your time. I should’ve stopped playing the minute I stopped having fun. I’m honestly disappointed . Also this game is 60 bucks and I don’t think it’s worth that. It was 30 on the 3ds and I don’t see enough to justify a double price increase. If you can get this game for 30 bucks I’d say it’s worth it for the mini games. I don’t mean to be so negative I was just disappointed.

Since I've played this game already, I'm judging this based on its merits as a remaster (improvements to the presentation and the surprisingly meaty gameplay additions). If you haven't played this game yet, this is easily the definitive way to play it, and you should go get it right now. While not being as impressive visually as Metroid Prime Remastered, it still outdoes the Wii version graphically by quite a lot, and the new visual style is really good – Dedede having his Forgotten Land model is so much better too. It seems like they also replaced the cutscene music with live samples, which sound great (and make me wish they did the same for the rest of the game).

New copy abilities were added to this game, being Sand and Mecha (Festival returns from Star Allies as well), and I enjoyed both of them. There's a LOT of new minigames added in this one, made all the better with Merry Magoland, where a stamp rally you progress by playing those minigames allows you to unlock masks Kirby can wear even in the main game (and sometimes change his voice to a different character), as well support items, like a random copy ability or energy drink. The minigames also have challenges to complete, which I thought was a lot of fun and could be decently challenging at times.

Magalor Epilogue is probably the most notable addition, and continues the Kirby tradition of adding actual difficulty to the postgame, and I had a great time with it. The level design is kind of boring though, having only slightly more aesthetic variety than Hollow Knight (yes, you heard me), and in that sense is pretty indistinguishable from Kirby Star Allies's Heroes in Another Dimension mode. However, Magalor can upgrade his powers by collecting magic points (the main collectible), which can also be earned by maintaining a longer combo string, which incentivized me to do better in levels despite the grading system as well. I really hope this system returns in a future Kirby game, I would love it if an entire game was just like this mechanically.

Once again, if you haven't played this game before, you should definitely get this version. If you have played this before, it's not a bad way to spend the second voucher you got to get Tears of the Kingdom, but maybe wait for a sale otherwise.

e um bom game mas eu tinha uma memoria falsa que eu jurava que as fases deletadas do gamecube iam estar nesse remake do switch e infelizmente não estão

Peak fiction continues to be peak fiction

A pretty solid remake of one of Kirby's better games. The visual upgrade is stunning, as everything here looks fantastic, the backgrounds in the stages especially. The two new copy abilities they added are both fun to play around with, and quite a few copy abilities relieved new moves they had in later games, such as sword gaining the skyward strike from the 3DS games. The two new modes they added were great as well! The various subgames they added are pretty fun, with my favorites being booming blasters and Kirby on the draw. The minigames also give access to cosmetics referencing characters from previous Kirby games, which is a nice touch. The Magolor epilogue is great as well. Magolor is a fun character to play as, especially as you increase his abilities through his skill tree. My only criticisms I have towards this remaster is the lack of online play for the main campaign, and not giving the player the ability to swap characters for Extra Mode. This is still a pretty solid option for a 2D platformer on Switch and one that I can recommend.

Very fun Kirby game! I always wanted to play the Wii game but never had the chance to. Playing it on the Switch was a very good experience. I loved the mega versions of the power ups, which was my favorite part of this game.

I do want to replay this game in co-op and try the extra and Magolor epilogue with some friends, so I will hopefully try and do that in another play-through soon!

I'm not quite done with this game - want to do as much side content as possible - but close enough to where I think I can review it.

The original Return to Dream Land was the first Kirby game I really liked and was already a 4/5 for me, so a remake with a more personally appealing artstyle and side content is great. And yeah, it delivers. Magolor Epilogue is probably the best side mode in the series as of now, clear effort went into making it a reason to play this version; not that it isn't rather short still, but longer than its contemporaries, and much more original than them. Merry Magoland is such a great treat. I veered straight towards it as soon as I could, wanting to get as many of the masks as possible before moving onto the story, and I'm glad I did. The returning subgames are mostly improved and are genuinely good challenges when going for all missions, and the new ones... well, the library one is good - reminds me of a fleshed-out Astro-Logical from Mario Party 6. Yes, I realize how specific of a comparison that is.

Really, my biggest problems with this game come from what problems were already there. I think the level design of this game and general feel aren't as up to snuff as I'd like, and makes levels feel like a slog sometimes. I'm usually able to look past this since the copy abilities began reaching their apex in this game (helping with that is Mecha, added in Deluxe, being perhaps my new favorite ability), but it's definitely an issue I have. The other is more of a nitpick, but I really hate Extra Mode is a requirement for 100% - getting all the gears in it, too, no less. It's very exhausting going through the game a second time, and the hard mode isn't different enough to warrant it.

Anyway, I love and treasure the masks for Dark Nebula, Awoofy, and Clawroline.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland is an incredibly important game in the history of the franchise, returning it to its roots and finishing what Kirby Super Star Ultra had started with getting the series out of the closest it had to a Dark Age with no core vision behind the franchise, and cementing director Shinya Kumazaki as the series frontrunner going forward. So needless to say as a huge Kirby fan, this port was an absolute must, and I still highly recommend it.

However, I must say that it's unfortunate that this game doesn't have the experience of future Kirby games that we do now, as what was once impressive and a much needed return to form for Kirby back in 2011 is now just alright in 2023. The new additions do help, Sand and Mecha are very fun abilities, but that doesn't save it from its past completely. For example, Mecha is introduced in World 3, the worst world in the game due to the abundance of water levels, (Kirby can't even use most abilities including Mecha underwater). A baffling decision to place it there if you ask me, Sand was lucky to get introduced in the desert.

The real exciting content on offer comes in the form of its new postgame, Magolor Epilogue. It suffers a bit at the start since Magolor starts out too bare bones to really be fun, but once you upgrade him and get more options, that's where things pick up. What would be just an okey romp with his Star Allies moveset through some new levels is saved with the introduction and focus on a combo system, encouraging players to learn Magolor to his fullest and rack up as many points as you possibly can. Most of the bosses aren't new but at least they provide more touch-ups than your standard EX fare and the new ones are a treat.

The minigame selection is pretty good love the ability to play Checkerboard Chase again but i do wonder why they're both in their own hub and on the ship seems redundant to me.

If you already played this on the Wii back in 2011, I'd only pick up this version if you're a hardcore Kirby fan like myself. Going through the whole game again just to get to that smidgen of new content isn't worth it unless you really love the cast and lore of Kirby.
However if you've never played Return to Dreamland before, absolutely pick this one up!

This game is still one of my favorite Kirby games it was a joy going down memory lane

This is the best way to play this game now. It looks great and the new Magolor content is a lot of fun. It seemed a little simplistic at first, but as you gain more abilities it expands enough to feel like it's more engaging. As a small side story it works great. There's not much to say about the main game except that it still holds up! I really do love this game as it was the first one I played in the series, and I have a lot of memories with it. It's not the best out of the 2D titles but it's still absolutely worth playing.

This is one of the Kirby games I never played when I was younger, so it was nice to have the chance to play on more modern hardware with enhanced graphics. Overall a really solid 2D platformer with really in depth copy abilities! Collecting all of the energy spheres has been my favorite part, since collectibles in Kirby games are usually fun to hunt down! Also the Magalor epilogue has been a great time, and its nice getting the extra content. This game is nothing earth shattering, but it's just a nice fun platformer!

one of the best 2D Kirby Games remastered with a fresh coat of paint that looks gorgeous. The game finds that perfect length of not being too short but not overstaying its welcome. The game is admittedly easy compared to the majority of games but if you looking for a relaxing, fun time then it fulfills its purpose. There is also an extra mode that increases the difficulty for the majority of bosses and enemies if you're looking for more of a challenge. Now I truly would rate this game 4 stars if were solely the main mode however the new extra content truly elevates the experience. Merry Magoland is this game's minigame collection. The majority of minigames are fun and great with friends. There is also a significant group of unlockables to keep you trying to improve your high score.
The highlight of the extra modes is the magolor epilogue that feels reminiscent of Metroidvania in some ways. Amidttley it is short but it is extremely fun and has a great climax. The only minor complaint comes in the way of the price. This game is best compared to a variety pack, taking the best pieces of Kirby games and combing them into a worthwhile experience.

What a fresh remake of a game, The Og game was already great, so going into this, I knew its was gonna be a good experience. The new game modes were also great, albeit a bit short, but alas was a great new experience.

I remember how this game blew my mind back in the days of the Wii. It doesn't necessarily blow my mind now, but Kirby is Kirby. This is a faithful, stylish and beautiful reinterpretation of the original game. I seriously can't wait to try the new epilogue, there's sure to be some sort of outstanding lore reveal.

Lor reveal, if you will.

As a fan of the original game, I couldn't pass up playing this version.
Despite being a remake, this version is 100% faithful to the original game, but with more beautiful graphics and extra content, being "Merry Magoland", a place where you can play minigames and win prizes, such as masks and aids for use during levels. And "Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler", a new game mode that basically is the equivalent of Meta Knightmare from previous games.
In terms of Gameplay the game being the same, it continues extremely fun, and we still have the addition of 2 new skills, being "Sand" and "Mecha", both very fun to be used.
In addition, the True Arena returns in this game, just like in the original, but with a much higher difficulty that makes the original The True Arena look like the normal The Arena, since now both the bosses of Extra Mode and the Epilogue of the Magolor are fought in this mode, adding many more bosses to the mode. In addition, the final boss of The True Arena is still Magolor Soul, but the battle has been changed so that her difficulty is much higher, basically a kind of "Magolor Soul EX", yet the original battle still remains. found in the game, as the final boss of Extra Mode.
I only have 2 criticisms with this game, one is that to play 100% of the game you need to complete both Normal and Extra modes, which means you will play the game 2 times and it can be quite repetitive. The other is that the game forces you to collect all the "Merry Magoland" prizes to reach 100%, and that in my opinion is absurd, since there are some challenges that can be very difficult for many people, for example I don't I'm able to beat "Samurai Kirby's" hard mode, simply because I don't have that fast reflexes and because of that I can't do 100% in the game.
Overall this is the definitive version of the game, and it's a great starting point for newcomers to the series.

still as good as the original

WOW that was a lot. I got all the energy spheres in main and extra mode, beat both arenas, beat all the challenge stages, beat all 120 missions in Merry Magoland, beat Magalor Epilouge, Platinumed all the stages and got all the Dress-Up Masks. This is (in my opinion) the quintessential Kirby experience. The abilities all have something to offer (except Parasol), especially the new ones. Sand is quick and nimble and can be used as a stone substitute. Mecha absolutely tears through shit with reckless abandon. And festival is here now too for some reason. The graphics got a nice upgrade which remind me of the cancelled pop-up GCN Kirby game. With this all of those canned prototypes have been “revived” in some way. The 3D one in Forgotten Land, the enemy to friend one in Star Allies, and the pop-up one in this game. The story in this one is sort of gear to ease people into the new “darker” age of Kirby, but still is somewhat fun and jolly. Magalor is a fun villain and his epilouge was fantastic. The combo meter mechanic was brilliant and nothing hits like getting a 100+ combo. It’s also cool how it ties Kirby Clash into the canon, though raises questions for me. I’d love to see a dimensional map of the Kirby world. There’s like 4 at this point. Merry Magoland is a fun addition but I didn’t adore any of the new sub-games besides Booming Blasters. That shit HITS. Weird that it kinda replaces Scope Shot but whatever. This game is great. Kirby is great. Play Kirby.

RtDL was already a timeless game back on the Wii, but I always love how HAL goes above and beyond for Kirby. The new Magoland is a fun way to celebrate their sub-games (and nice fanservice with the tons of masks you can unlock) and the magolor epilogue is a fun extra romp. Sand and Mecha are really good abilities, too.

Man, I love Kirby and HAL Labs always makes it easy to.
