Don't think there's anything standout in this MP compared to the others. Even more flat/bland minigames here, and the whole Mega/Mini mechanic didn't do anything for me. Being Mega, you just bypass everything so there's little interaction other than stomping on people for a measly 10 coins. And being Mini, there's a solid chance you're not going to roll enough to reach the given Mini Pipe or event you're aiming for.

While the previous Mario Party games were fun, 4 is where they started getting REALLY good. The minigames are an absolute blast in this one, and the boards are very fun too!

Probably my favorite Mario Party game at this point, although a lot of that is surely nostalgia as it was the first one that I played.
The beginning of the end of charm in Mario Parties. There was still some interesting stuff here and there, but generally wasn't very memorable in any regard.
This is the official point where Mario Party devolved into generic sludge. There is nothing explicitly wrong with Mario Party 4, or 5 for that matter, but my god were they boring compared to previous games.

Mario Party 4 has a strong set of Minigames but it's board design and item and event balancing leave a lot to be desired. Items are often prohibitively expensive and the removal of item minigames and the replacement of the with the games core gimmick Mega and Mini Mushrooms (both of which are limiting fusions of the Mushroom and Bowser Suit/Poison Mushroom and Skeleton Key respectively) means board events are much rarer and Star chasing is the main part of the game which makes for static games with much more emphasis on luck. Still a good Mario Party but if you're looking for something more strategic play 2, 3, or 6.
some board gimmicks kinda suck but i think it has the series' best selection of minigames, also for being a GC game it oddly has a lot of n64 era vibes which i always adored

There’s nothing really special about this installment. the only new thing going for it is the graphics. Still though, it’s a fun little game to play with friends and they actually bothered fixing the A.I .
