We all deserve friends as loyal as Delta Squad.

High-Quality Tacti-cool Combat. Odd gunplay feel and lack of polish are fine sacrifices in exchange for a great squad dynamic and the ability to feel both your boots on the ground doing the work and the stand back, lets-rearrange-some-architecture-deltas of minute to minute leadership.

this game made me afraid of the super battle droids, a task everything else failed to do.

First of all, this game is a crappy Xbox port from that time in history when Microsoft encouraged developers to make games for the console primarily and PC as an afterthought. As a result, you need a mod called "Republic Commando Fix" if you want improvements such as modern resolutions, larger FOV, improved mouse aim, etc.
As for the review; this is a squad based shooter, and a pretty good one at that. The AI of your companions is solid, it's easy to give them commands and they all have distinctive personalities and specializations, although they can perform different roles in a pinch too.
The shooting itself is a mixed bag because your standard weapons feel weak. They have the standard Star Wars sound effects which is nice, but also very little recoil and most enemies barely react to getting shot. However, you can also find extra weapons that are usually pretty fun and can carry 4 different types of grenade. So, as I said, a mixed bag.
Now, I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan, particularly because I don't like the jedi, so I can't say how authentic the setting is presented. However, I did like the atmosphere of the game, especially the second mission. I will say that the story sections could have benefited from some more runtime though, it feels like there are missing transitions or something.
To conclude, I think Star Wars: Republic Commando is pretty good. It's easy to pick up for a squad based shooter, contains plenty of cool attention to detail and there's a fix for the crappy port. It's also about the cooler aspects of Star Wars in my opinion like commandos, alien warriors and battle droids. Who cares about virgin space wizards?

Probably the star wars game that provides the most immersive spaces for players to walk through in that franchise's universe. However, this immersion also includes constant reminders that most of the humanoids in star wars are extremely faschy.

A very competent tactical shooter that offers a more streamlined experience compared to its peers. The gunplay feels decent enough, and the squad based mechanics works well enough most of the time. On the harder difficulties you'll definitely appreciate your squadmates more, but be sure not to put too much trust on them, they're far from perfect. The AI pathing can be a bit iffy, and it can get too chaotic for them to properly help you. Other than the combat, there's a gritty and grounded story to look forward to, which adds a lot to the serious tactical feel of the game. I can't say the music or the levels themselves are too memorable. If you like slower paced shooters then this should be a good time.

Nicht Fertig Gespielt aber es macht SPAß
alder ist das gut

Overall a pretty cool game. The combat is fun and engaging for the most part, though later on commanding your squad became a little stale. There wasn't too much variety but considering it's not even 10 hours long, that repetition really only sets in in the final mission (which really took way too long imo). I also had some weird bug later on that had my squad constantly walk back through the levels? I had to assign them spots or I would simply be on my own in combat. I don't think that'll be a universal experience though.

Story-wise this game is just really cool. I mean, what's not to love about playing as a bad-ass group of Special Forces clones and carrying out these really daunting ops. It's cool and I had a good time, but it ended up a little underwhelming.

great music, epic clashes. tactical gameplay is important in some places. The artificial intelligence, behavior and animations of our teammates are beyond years. Dialogues are fine. The downside is that the level designs are not rich enough, the game progression is too linear.

Esse jogo merecia uma sequência, é um conceito tão perfeito pra se unir com Star Wars, uma pena que caiu no limbo.

Nothing feeds me with more nostalgia than this game. But man does it hold up! Some pretty sweet squad mechanics for a game from 2005, and DAMN does the art design, music, sound design, and voice acting just hit it out of the park! This gritty boots-on-the-ground/band of brothers perspective in the Star Wars universe is such a sweet experience to get immersed in.

Plus shout out to those bonus bts featurettes you unlock through playing the game! This game taught me what foley, concept art, and other aspects of game/film/television development include. Wish more games did this!

I learned that this game had a zoom halfway through the last mission.
Republic Commando is awesome; you run a squad of 4 commandos each with their own personality, game play is simple but makes me feel like I really am a deadly squad of elite Clones. The music of this game is good, it's a mix of the Star Wars soundtrack we all know and love but some original tracks made as well. The sound design is superb as well.

I absolutely love this game. My only gripe is how short it is and that there's been no sequel.

Despite drawing me in with an interesting concept, republic commando ends up falling short of its promises.

Calling it a tactical shooter is an overstatement, yeah you get basic squad commands, but they're basically just attack/follow/defend here, and the way the combat plays blow the (tactical) label completely off, it's more arcade-y turn of the century shooting if anything.

This is a short game - only having 3 missions subdivided into chapters - with all what comes packaged with its length. Enemy variety is a bit lacking, weapons are adequately varied but a lot of them lack a punch, this is a problem because enemies are relatively spongy enough that I found myself depending on the very effective - and somewhat OP - melee attack a lot. So the combat is subpar by any relatively modern standards.

Writing-wise republic commando was... cute. It's a nice concept fleshing out a major event from the viewpoints of the individuals handling the dirty wetworks themselves. Team delta has great character synergy, but the narrative takes a nosedive in the last mission. Not to mention the visual and level design goes from being dull into become irritating.

As a Star Wars fan I've become unfazed by milking the grandiose arcs, if anything interests me now it would be the folds and kinks in the story, that I hoped SW: RC would scratch. With the sequel hastily canned, RC is now just a blemished proof of concept.

This game has some great ideas and feels quite immersive. Your squad mates all have their own personalities and are all enjoyable. You can designate each to a specific task including using turrets, healing, explosives, covering you, or going ahead of you and shooting enemies. The game has three levels but for some reason starts you off at the hardest one. Like seriously I got to the end and was shocked at how easy it was compared to the first part of the game. The game feels old in the sense that a lot of the upgrades we have in fps’s today are lacking so be aware of that. The game is rather short even for a game made in 05 which is sad because it has so much potential and the ending feels so jarring. There was suppose to be a sequel called imperial commando which would’ve continued the story but sadly was cancelled. I would love to see this game remade! There’s a lot of potential here and ,next to kotor, probably one of the most immersive Star Wars games you can play.

These guys are the space marines of the Star Wars universe and I love them

Fun as hell. Banter with your squad is really entertaining, not much of an overall plot though. Gameplay can be really strong or weak depending on the weapon, with some randomly feeling super powerful and satisfying with others being peashooters. The game is not too difficult overall, with some huge and tense difficulty spikes every so often. The gameplay is pretty interesting but kind of simple, withyou issuing tactical commands to your squad. The game is kind of short, and environments can be a little repetitive although there are some cool ones like the Trandoshan prison ship.

This game is so cool, it's not even funny. This game is fun, badass, serious, lighthearted, and terrifying all at the same time. I love this game, and I'm kind of shocked it took me this long to try it.

I've never been much of a Star Wars fan. Despite that I have watched a lot of it and played even more. That makes me feel confident in saying that this is probably the best thing to ever come from the prequels.

There isn't much of a story, but what story it has is greatly uplifted by its characters. Your squad are all incredibly charismatic, likeable characters. They did a great job of making them feel distinct despite them all being clones. They aren't deep by any means, but when the game threw the "are you invested" test at me, I definitely passed.

The game plays like a fairly standard console shooter of its time. Closer to something like Medal of Honor: European Assault than more tactical PC shooters like Rainbow Six 3. It does have tactical elements, you can order your squad around and make decisions like whether to breach a door with explosives or to slice the console and sneak in, but the friendly AI mostly takes care of itself so it feels more like a standard shooter for the most part. The worst part about the gameplay is the weapon limit. Three of your four weapon slots are all attachments for your blaster. You only get to carry one additional weapon. What makes it worse is that all the other weapons are the coolest in the game. You get a really cool Trandoshan shotgun and an LMG. You get a Geonosian beam weapon that has clicking finger-like machines on its side that speed up when firing, drawing the blood from the bugs and using it as a weapon. You can even use the Wookie bowcaster! That alone is my biggest problem with the game, you don't get to use all the cool weapons as often as you should.

Speaking of Wookies, when you get to Kashyyyk you can feel the budget and time starting to run out. You start to notice padding that hasn't really been in the game prior, on top of the overall lack of polish in that part of the game. The last act on Kashyyyk is the only part of the game I found noticeable bugs. Nothing game-breaking mind you, but distracting all the same.

This is very much a game that you should play. It is one of the best Star Wars games, with a cool new take on the setting that is darker and grittier, but still recognizably Star Wars. Seeing the world from this perspective is a breath of fresh air honestly, it was nice to see. If any Star Wars game deserves a reboot/sequel, its this one.

Never got around to this and I really enjoyed it! For a 2005 game it gets a little repetitive towards the end but I still had a lot of fun I hope we get an up to date sequel soon.

Pretty good atmosphere and presentation.
While outdated, graphics have their charm.
Level design is linear and some enemies can be quite the bullet sponges, which is unfortunate.
Weapon and enemy variety felt pretty good and while the commands you can give to the AI are rather rudimentary, it adds a nice layer to the gameplay.

An astoundingly well put-together game that’s not afraid to put its systems to full use and force players into mastery, and it is a genuine shame that there isn’t more of it.

The premise, setting, and little flourishes (visor cleaning!) of Republic Commando go a long way in papering over the bones of an uninspired shooter.

And at the time of release, that window dressing was like being given secret knowledge. Both in having it tell a story that bridged the gap to Revenge of the Sith before it released and in giving a peak at boots on the ground with the clones. That feeling of revelation still endears me to the idea of Commando today, even if playing through it in modern times is fine at best.
