2023 Plans/Goals
Here is a link to my 2022 version of this list. I did a pretty bad job of actually going through it! I played 12 out of 23 and only completed 3 of them! Some of those are carrying over and some are new. Maybe this year will be better!

It's been up there this long, I'm sure it can wait a while longer, it's fiiiine
Saluting every syberia fan who is going back after 3 lmao, which will include me someday certainly
I recommend the SNES version of FFVI, and if you want you can patch it to be GBA translation but I think both are good
Yeah the big problem with VI is there are many competing fan translations that mostly work off of making changes to either the GBA or the SNES scripts and there isn’t REALLY a right or wrong way to go for those. The GBA version itself has deeply compromised sound and visuals compared to the SNES version because it can’t replicate the sound or colors of the console properly but the script is not the problem. General idea is that SNES is a looser and more energetic script but the GBA is more true to the original text. Both have their merits.
Personally I think just the straight up SNES version is fine and the easiest way to go if you just wanna go.
IF you wanna try a romhack then I think the currently accepted translation-based one is the Revised Old Style Edition which aims to synthesize what the authors believed to be the strengths of both versions of the script and other fan TLs. It also works in all the big bug fixes from other popular versions of the game. People seem really enthusiastic about it in what I’m sure you can tell is a usually divided community lol.
PERSONALLY I would not recommend the version on steam; with completely redone graphics and a fully orchestrated soundtrack that has fully replaced the original, along with other smaller changes I think those are decent versions of the games but not like, The Games, really different AV experiences ultimately. HOWEVER many people really like them so if you like the look and sound of it just do that one, the actual game part is basically the same in every version

The version of VI on Steam is just way too ugly for me to recommend 😔
