Remember when Nintendo perfectly demonstrated the asymmetric multiplayer potential of the Wii U with a free launch game and then did nothing with that?

This game really miscalculated how invested I was in, like, the lore of LittleBigPlanet.

Before reaching the end, I was ready to write this off as a forgettable experience that felt like someone watched too many "INSANE FIREWATCH THEORY!!" videos and decided to make their own game.

But it's almost unbelievable how badly this game bungles its messaging around the themes it warns of at the start. At best it is very badly saying what it wants to say, and at worst it is actively rationalizing some sick and abusive behavior. Do yourself a favor and skip this.

Incredible atmosphere and investigative storytelling. I've found very few sources of dopamine more pure than seeing "Well done." on a green-grey screen after making a deduction.

Definitely the most enduring piece of media prominently featuring the NEXTEL brand.

BlueTwelve and Annapurna could have just delivered a pretty good Cat Meme Game, but instead we got a game with great cat mechanics and a wonderfully melancholic, funny, and heartwarming tone.

"I can fix him." - Crankette after Crankin is late for their 49th date in a row

In my review for the previous season of Fall Guys I called it a "disaster," so I'm not even sure what to call this one. Things went from very bad to worse throughout this overly long season. Rounds were removed from the game left and right, resulting in a game with less variety than it had even a few months after launch. Uncreative and repetitive limited time events give very little incentive to play, and when I do the game is as buggy as ever and rampant with hackers. Fall Guys really feels like it's on fumes, with its future riding on its new creative mode coming this week. Will that be enough?

Outer Wilds, more than any other before it, is only an experience you could have with a game. To discuss Outer Wilds' story is to discuss your own personal experience with it. The game is the story. Sure, there are texts left behind by ancient aliens and a few snippets of dialogue with fellow explorers, but for the most part Outer Wilds is just you and the universe. A universe spinning like gears in a clock, alive and in motion regardless of how you interact with it. It's terrifying and haunting and beautiful all at once.

Outer Wilds is a triumph. Possibly the most finely crafted experience in gaming. My personal favorite. You owe it to yourself to experience it firsthand.

The word masterpiece gets thrown around a lot with games, but with Kentucky Route Zero that description is apt. The writing is some of the best that gaming has to offer; effortlessly profound, taking you on a journey that never goes where you'd expect and that lingers long after it's over. The world is like a dream, and yet it feels so tangible.

Everything from the story, the characters, the art, and the soundtrack crashes together to point to the game's themes. It's a special thing to behold, a creative at the top of their game like this. For days after the end of the final act I was just in awe of everything I had experienced. There will never again be anything quite like my time on the Zero.

I probably should have played Alan Wake before this.

Would love to play a basketball video game that doesn't feel like I'm piloting a tugboat.
