2003

This is the definition of a 7/10 game. Great comic book artstyle, souless voice acting and checkpoint based stealth. It's way too easy to be annoying though and the shooting is fun. I probably would have loved this if I had played it back in 2003,but NOLF is way better.

Quake is a special game. There isn't a deep story or anything, but the gameplay is so well crafted that it instantly becomes hypnotic. One thing that is still impressive to this day is the level design. There are many shooters from the 90's that have confusing and frustrating mazes for levels, but Quake's levels are quite elegantly designed as long as you keep exploring, you will never get lost. It is also not too long; I beat it in two sessions, so if you've never played it, go for it.

That feeling when you're five levels deep, and you just realized you screwed yourself over with the build, so now you have to start over with a different character. Still very fun and atmospheric after all these years, but you'll probably be playing Diablo II for the rest of your life, and this one will remain a curiosity despite being a classic.

What I really respect about this one is how much it doesn't care for the rules of open world game design. You want a big map with 500 side quests and customizable everything? Piss off, we have an important story to tell and you're following it, so drive this F****ng car right now.

You shoot dodge and wear a trench coat, but no bullet time:( also I remember the torture minigames being so cool to me as a kid, but now they just make me a bit nauseous. Last one: why is this game so damn long?

Look, this game is just laughable at times. The cutscenes are bad, the main guy's voice actor is worse, and the shooting mechanics are just barely holding together. But you know what? I can't really write about this objectively, because I have a crippling addiction to Max Payne clones and I had fun with it, so don't listen to me.

The enigmatic second game in the series is one that many swear by, and you should count me in with those people , because this one got me. It takes a cynical and somber approach to post-colonial African conflict, and it does it with more seriousness than a video game has any right to attempt. The best thing about it is how it reflects that in the mechanics. The endlessly respawning enemies mechanic is something a loth of people have criticized, but to me it just communicates the direness of the situation and the futility of whatever it is you're trying to achieve. You just wake up every day, being washed over by waves of desensitizing violence and you realize that you are making no difference; if anything you're just making things worse. Are you having fun yet?

Did you know this game was buggy? Because it is god damn buggy, I'll tell you that. My most surreal experience was a single corridor by the end where it kept respawning enemies infinitely. Still even with all that, STALKER is one of a kind, and it's basically a hardcore PC gamer's wet dream(it has leaning). You owe yourself to at least try to play it

Human Revolution was longer, with a more fleshed out story. This has improved gameplay, and one of the best open worlds ever in Prague. So it averages out as about the same final score.

Sticks the landing(with the Icarus landing system), but as many have pointed out, it just doesn't feel like Deus Ex. It doesn't have to in order to be a good game however, which it definitely is.

Continuous the story with a great twist at the end. Slightly less grim looking or feeling than the first one, and more variety with the puzzles.

Some people want a remake of this. Don't! The Ps1 graphics are perfect. This game is perfect.

Prey is absolutely fantastic. If the term halflifelike (or halflike, maybe) had taken off in a parallel universe like soulslike did, than this would be the ultimate example, because this game is the next best thing to Half Life you can play.

One of those 2000s games you always hear about being great. It isn't, but it's still worth checking out. I wish the entire game was just the opening town section with no weapons.

I love Remedy, I was ready to love this one too. But I was not ready for the combat to be this terrible, and the writing and atmosphere not being good enough to save it. I am also getting kind of tired of that Remedy post modern meta narrative thing they always do, with the writer of the story being a stand in for the writer of the game. " Huge author wants to follow up his massive crime series with a horror novel, but it takes over his life", how about you just write a good book Sam - I mean Alan.
