if u do the neutral path ur a fuckin pussy

I love this game, it's great in every way. Overclocked is even better, but this version is special to me because it's how i discovered SMT when i was like 12.

I found out about it in a Club Nintendo magazine, the reviewers compared it to Death Note and TWEWY. At that time i didn't play RPGs (now one of my favorite genres), i found them boring except for Pokemon. I imagined cliche plots about medieval fantasy with magic crystals and prohpecies and shit, i was not into it at all (kinda funny considering Dark Souls has a medieval fantasy setting and it's currently my favorite game of all time).

But Desu 1 taking place in modern times and fighting using demons caught my attention and decided to play it.

I still remeber the first time i booted it up. It was night, i was playing it with headphones and hidden under my sheets. The fucking intro theme and text SCARED me enough to turn it off, i had to start playing it the next day in the morning.

A bit of context:

1) I used to be a MASSIVE pussy, like, i was not able to beat 1-1 in Re4 because i was too scared to progress. I couldn't handle scary shit AT ALL. I would eventually get over it years later by exposing myself to that stuff until it didn't scare me anymore. Now i love horror games and can play them without any issue but the side effect is that nothing scares me wich also kinda sucks :/

2) I grew up in a VERY religious family, one that ate up all the satanic panic garbage up. For example i couldn't play Doom because they tought it would LITERALLY SUMMON DEMONS to our house. And of course i believed it.

So yeah, not only the intro scared me to death, i also felt like i was doing something wrong.

Anyways, i loved it and i sucked really really REALLY bad at it, this was my first non-pokemon RPG, and it's not an easy one regarldless of your experience. Horrible teams, terrible stat spread for the MC, fucked up every event, getting stuck for months in a few bosses, getting the bad ending, getting the not-good ending, etc.

But i couldn't stop playing it because i was having too much fun and i eventually mastered it and beat it like a billion times.

It also shaped my taste in media, it improved my english a little bit (just a bit, what i know is self taught and this game and the AVGN were one of my main learning tools), and Naoya's edgyness was my first step to questioning religion.

It's probably the most important game i played in my life for all the effects it had later, it literally made my life better. It also helped me discover the Persona series, and Kanji's Social Link was ANOTHER thing that had massive influence in my early teens and made me a happier person.

Thank you for everything edgy japanase game with gravity defying boobs.

The original got me into SMT, and this is that exact game but with more content.

I beat both version like a million times, i love them.

The gameplay is a ton of fun, the characters are great and the story + athmosphere is really well done. It also has a great soundtrack.

Easily one of my favorite games of all time.

had a lot of fun here, the movement is realllyy smooth and the gameplay feels so great

unfortunately the protag is a furry... BUT the game still rocks, trust me!

Devil Survivor is like a cult classic within a cult classic franchise. Absolutely love this game, it being one of my first 3DS games and a super nostalgic game to go back to. It improves upon the base DS game in several major ways, though it does still have its share of balancing issues. The story has a nice combo of grit and uplift, and it moves at a nice pace with story and gameplay in good measure to each other. There's plenty of additional events and mutually exclusive scenes to keep multiple playthroughs fresh, and decent variation in the ending routes along with immense variations in the new Day 8 Scenarios.

The game does have some cons. Progression can be very grindy, with intense downward scaling for exp gains while also slowly giving you money. The late game also sees a massive spike in difficulty, and more than half the game's cast is only available to play for the last 6-12 fights. As a final problem, the bonus bosses aren't very well balanced save for Lucifer, and most of them you either get stomped by or roll with overtuned demons you carried over from previous playthroughs.

The pros heavily outweigh the cons though, and if you can find an easy way to play this I'd highly recommend it. Devil Survivor is one of the more unique sub-series of MegaTen, and it'd be nice to see it get more love.

sorry goopers, devil survivor 2 is NOT GOOD. firstly if you play devil survivor 1 and expect this to be some form of a successor you are WRONG!!! this game fucked me up so bad my DS broke like immediately after

the gameplay is pretty much the same as the first one only they made small little unnecessary tweaks to how it functions/feels so its slightly worse such as the ui being slower and the sfx (and some vfx) being bog awful and ugly but like same thing as 1 if you squint

the story is super silly but thats not why i dont like it, it was slow as fuck from the start and boring but the social tier thing they did with each character was reaaally good and it made the characters a lot less one dimensional than in the first game. how you choose to spend your time/how much you interact with certain people actually influences the story which was pretty crazy too bad the final act of the game sucked so fucking bad

the pick ur side beef was foreshadowed the whole time which i dont have a problem with however the ideologies kind of suck its either be evil (no cool twist just be a knobjockey), be racist or be a normal ass human being.

another thing is the day system in 2 sucks so fucking much it has like no actual sauce to it at all in devil survivor 1 each day was important as the gimmick was there was a 7 day lockdown introduced and you learn that you will die once the lockdown is over which creates a tense scenario and all amplified by the death counter stuff.

in 2 its literally just there like each day will be "tuesdays cheeky little happenings" or "thursdays big wank" or something and it has no real link to the story. if this was its own game seperate from the expectations of devil survivor 1 i wouldnt really care i just dont know why they did it

anyway i found this game super fucking fun after the slow start and wouldve probably put it on par or even higher than the first game like most people do however the final boss portion polaris was the worst fucking disapointing let down ever dude i had the biggest frown on my fucking face i was abt to cry and shit i fused like 8 holy dance drain demons for this fight all hyped and shit cant believe i invested my time in that ass

3 stars probably gonna play the overclocked one if i change my mind on the game ill stable my bollocks to my thigh

picture of my ds like immediately after i finished the game

This was an incredibly ill conceived game. It makes perfect sense how this came out moments before Career Soft went bankrupt.

Honestly I wouldn't even know where to start. Just from playing, it becomes clear how many of the game's concepts were aborted (the multiple protagonists prologue and how the character designs make no fucking sense when it's been consistent in every growlanser game prior to 5).

I wouldn't be able to recommend this game to anyone. If you're really desperate for a 3D growlanser game, go play 6 instead. At worst that game is just a below average growlanser game and not a complete clusterfuck of mistakes like this one.

My first SMT game, story, gameplay, soundtrack, art, mechanics. All perfect.

EVEN better than the original, new content is great (although I miss the original opening). This game single handedly destroyed my circadian rhythm. Amane best girl

This game was phenomenal by far it was the best amnesia game in fact I would have given it a 5 star if it weren't for some game-breaking bugs and nitpicks I had with the story/endings the gameplay mechanics were amazing and the story was amazing

fuck botw this is 2017's goty

Mhm yeah, there's tears in my eyes alright, because they somehow made a story about samurai mechs completely LAME.

what persona wishes it was

Devil Survivor Overclocked is not only the best SMT spinoff game, but one of the best in the franchise. A top-notch cast of characters and gripping, multi-path story will keep you hooked along with great turn-based strategy gameplay. One of SMT's best QOL additions, skill inheritance, came from this game. Instead of negotiating and bribing demons, you buy them outright in an auction house. The music is not everyone's taste but I love the heavy metal soundtrack. The graphics are nice, and the ui's aesthetic is cool. My only complaints for this game are the weird difficulty spikes and mediocre voice acting. Devil Survivor Overclocked is a must-play for anyone interested in or familiar with Megami Tensei.

This game is so good, I loved the route and overclocked portion of the game, I may one day go back and new game plus this to 100%.
