SMT at its absolute peak (ok that's Nocturne but this is a different direction and equally good). Story is on point from the first minute to any of the endings, gameplay is insanely well-executed and merges SRPG with Press Turn beautifully, it's honestly just awesome. That said it's hard as balls, play it on Easy, it smooths the experience just a little bit without actually nerfing it.
Expected an RPG but got an advanced random number generator instead...
Smirking as the main gimmick is still pretty luck-based and misses/crits happen a little too frequently
Bosses have either shit AI or just seem to select random skills (the worst examples are bosses like Izanami and Chemtrail, but even the very first two bosses in the story are not enjoyable in any sense). Sometimes you don't even need to re-arrange skills and party to win a boss fight, all you need is to re-load and fish for some good RNG that won't fuck you over.
The game is easily exploitable (Megidoplasma and Panic Caster + Trafuri on bosses) but Press Turns feel better than in Nocturne at least.
Exploration can feel satisfying sometimes but the on-field encounters can be inescapable because of MC's slow speed.
The map is terrible and it was clearly designed for people who already know Tokyo irl and navigating it can be a pain.
This game absolutely requires looking at a guide but I guess some people are into that, I think that the game would definitely benefit from showing locations on the map just like in Apoc.
The dungeons aren't really of note, aside from the first and the last not being fun to traverse at all.
I'd probably rate this game a bit lower but the story has its good moments and the Music/Art can be pretty nice.

As soon as I heard it was the same map, I knew this was gonna be disappointing. Its basically BOTW + garys mod. It took them 6 years to add garys mod to an already existing map. Sure there’s some QOL changes, new enemies, yada yada but it’s not enough to justify a $70 price tag and a 6 year wait. Majora’s Mask did more in barely 2 years. Im sure it’s just as good as BOTW but I cant be asked to play the same game 2 times in a row. A new map, drastic change in tone, and additions that don’t feel like gimmicks would’ve compelled me to keep playing this. Also the 10/10s across the board goes to show Nintendo is buying out reviews.

I'm sorry, how is this fun to people? I feel like I'm crazy.
Edit: Picked it up again. After finally escaping the Great Sky Island, the game hits its stride. I'm still not a fan of the open world format for this series, because I ended up sequence breaking without realizing it, which kinda bummed me out.

the amalgamation of what this game is trying to say, it's artstyle the way it's written and presented really makes it one of a kind
it interacts with you assuming you are a certain type of person which creates a weird way of positioning yourself as a player if you don't fit in that category
you should play this blind and you should give it a chance
