This game man. Its got some performance issues. Occasionally getting a lil sluggish in high density areas. But it still feels so good all the time. Seamless platforming that feels so fluid and fun over twenty years after release. Super neat locales with unique missions throughout. Its not a long game. Plausible to 100% in under ten hours. But fun per minute is a glowing spot on this one. Fully worth the time and play.

This is one of the best action JRPGs ever made and nobody will ever forget it. The story is retold in a deeply engaging way. Every character is treated with so much love and care and they're all much more fully realized than they were in the 1997 OG. The world is gorgeous and beautifully realized. The added content to literally every part of the game transcends padding or fluff. The voice acting, both Japanese and English, are phenomenally done. There is so much depth added to various story beats and I openly sobbed during one segment.
This game has flaws; far too many mini-games, some of which were infuriating. Some of the story beats were told slightly better in og, which I can't get into without spoiling. And some sidequests were just not engaging. However, everything else in this game is just so good, I can't subtract points for these negatives. This is my favorite game in probably twenty years and I'm never going to forget it.

The game's story is okay at best. The "deep moral choices" and "How you interact with your team decides how they act" Is all very shallow and surface level. I played through the whole game purely on vibes. The characters do interact with each other believably, but the gameplay and story just don't make the game enjoyable. If anything, I hated having to turn the difficulty down just so that every single enemy wasn't an endless HP Bullet Sponge
I tried real hard to make sure I wasn't just looking back with rose tinted glasses but nah. This game is that good. There's a formula here that games to this day are still using. And its rare that they have the same charm. There's a reason this game is brought up constantly. I see this game as required reading for anyone that sees video games as more than just a time passer

This is the second game I ever owned on a home console (pokemon stadium came with my n64) I beat it over and over because I was a kid and that's what you do with games when you're a kid. I think its one of the better 3d platformers of the time with lots of neat lil explorables and level changes depending on what stars you're going after

I played at launch and the game was a broken buggy mess. I constantly fell through the world, died from fall damage jumping in place, flew off cars, died from falling cars etc. I pushed through anyways. My opinion was soured by all the bugs.
I replayed the game later after patches on patches on patches and realized. I just don't like this game. I don't like numbers shooters. I don't like forced, melodramatic, "There's no happy endings in night city..." bullshit. None of the endings are satisfying and there's nothing you can do to change that. Its just not my thing. I think the world, the aesthetic, the stories in the world, All great. But as a game this is just not for me.

I'm not sure if I should review the current product or what launched. Empty promises, an empty game. nothing to do. Actually the most boring video game ever. Now filled to the brim with content and exploration and last time I checked, the procedural generation seemed to create less horrid monstrosities and I found myself on more planets with cool stuff to do. This is a good redemption story
