2018

Five years ago I would have called this game "tough, but fair." And I would have been a fucking liar. That said, that doesn't stop the game from being interesting and awe-inspiring.

This game is FAST

Give it a shot, you'll likely find something to like about it!

Also, it's maybe the only game I'm good at, so that's gotta count for something lol.

Good game to play in one sitting.

This game is like a unmemorable charcuterie plate, it's mostly an excuse to talk with friends.

One of the best feeling games I've played in years. Oh, and the art and music are top notch too!

2019

An experience worth having if you like your stories a little too real (especially if you work in CS).

Most people will probably like "Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden" more, but this game carries over those systems into a nice no-frills package.

2017

A quiet, confident game. Subtle, right until it isn't. Builds a world and uses that world to prop up its themes in smart ways. The Metroid Prime sequel we never knew we needed.

What if 4X, but gorgeous, and smartly crafted? Get the expansion too!

Just play it. It's funny, sad, powerful, cute, scary. Made me feel a lot of things.

An aesthetically incredible game, that just happens to be mechanically incredible as well.

I wrote this a few years back and it still hold up: "It has always felt a little weird to me when we criticize professional sports teams for not having enough fun. Yes, when a team is able to enjoy themselves it usually helps the on field product, but professional sports and "fun" have a weird relationship. Above all else professional sports are a job. Pyre gets this in a way no other sports game ever really has and it's fascinating. The Rites are not a fun event, but a somber ritual that happens to be gameified. For the actual player, it is a fun game, but for the athletes, it is a means to a greater end, and Pyre does such a good job on delivering that narrative."

An awe inspiring game in every sense. Come for the banjo, stay for the science!

Gather some friends and play this on a rainy weekend.

What if every genre? But good.
