Man...it's been quite a road to here. Eastward initially caught my eye two years ago in a Summer indie direct. The trailer music was banging, and the vibrant, detailed pixel art helped it stand out to me amongst all the revolving door of dull indie games.

If there's one thing I can't gush enough about Eastward, it's just how pretty it is. Seriously, I took like over 100 screenshots during my 23 hrs of playing because I could not help myself.  I really enjoyed the puzzles,  although it felt like the devs could have went a bit more ham with some of the level mechanics at points.

The combat really kills this game as it is just not very exciting or deep. The entirety of the game boils down to Sam for stun and john for job done. John's attack windup is also somewhat sluggish which makes dealing with swarming enemies a little annoying at times. I much preferred fighting the bosses over the mobs as I thought pretty much every boss was well designed, simple fun.

I am debating on whether or not if I like the overall story as it still feels very typical of the rpg "end of humanity/civilisation" trope. Regardless, I still found myself endeared to a couple of the characters and it helped me enjoy the adventure more.

This game isn't perfect but it is comfy, and sometimes that's all you really need.

Only reason I stopped was because the game kept crashing after like 30-40 mins each time I started a session. This got really frustrating when I was trying for A+ on each chapter after I beat the game. My own crummy experience aside, the music is bopping and the gameplay is tight, fluid while being satisfying as fuck to master. Will revisit someday when I can fix the crashing issue.

A seamless transition of the metroid formula to 3D

Wish I gave a shit about single player splatoon sooner. This is easily the best experience I've had from a switch exclusive. The level design absolutely blows the base game campaign out of the water. There are really neat puzzle sections sprinkled throughout and some of the tests offer a welcome challenge with a generous learning curve.

Even though the DLC was fairly consistent in its quality throughout my playthrough, I think the game truly shined in its final stages. They take all the mechanics littered throughout the DLC and combine into one big spy thriller gauntlet.

My only real gripe with this game is that it reuses bosses from the base game (albeit with small twists) and that the ost is fairly hit or miss. The music in the matchmaking segments was especially grating.

Looking forward to what Splatoon 3 has in store.

Had this sitting at 96% for like 2 yrs yikes. Those last two secret levels were really satisfying to complete with solo donkey kong

175 hours in and there is still so much to fucking to do even on just one save file. Props to ConcernedApe for pumping out consistent updates which keep this game fresh.

Say what you want about it but this game has some of my favourite boss fights and dungeons in the series. Motion controls are still a bit finnicky at times I guess but I kind of ended up liking the sword swinging gimmick at least ¯\(ツ)

Framework for a great game is there. Hope the sequel can add some depth, replayability value and some of that 'Zelda' feel I was missing from this one.

I don't really play rpgs but this game slaps
