There was way too much effort put into this, a game in the licensed movie tie-in genre. This is a project where no one would've been heartbroken if it sucked. Instead, the levels where you're just a toy running around in Andy's bedroom or in the Daycare really do feel like for-scale recreations of actual rooms, with so many unique textures and models that they feel like spaces you can live in, something I never felt for any other PS3 era game including AAA titles like Uncharted.

And there's other insane little touches like:
-There's a Star Trek: DS9 reference in one of the cutscenes said by an actual Star Trek actor.
-The co-op actually functions really well, better than many Switch games.
-They made an Al's Toy Barn for the Extras "menu" and the attention to detail as far as making it look like one of those big box toy stores is immaculate.
-They made a playable version of the entire opening sequence of Toy Story 2 just because they could.
-There's unlockable game developer interviews and concept art.

And my god, the Toybox section of the game. This is the part of the game that receives the most praise and it deserves every bit of it. I'm actually kinda mad that I didn't play this during the PS3 era because that open world area with all the little missions and funny little guys you can dropkick into cacti would've been my shit when I was younger. I can see why Disney looked at this and went "we could make an entire franchise based off of this" with Disney Infinity. Shame Disney Infinity wasn't more like this and was instead Disney Infinity.

The only two things holding it back are the length of the game (you can finish the story mode in about three hours, with several levels being only one or two rooms) and the fact that the controls only feel great about 80% of the time, with some cheap deaths happening because the game didn't let Woody grab a ledge he normally could. Otherwise, actually a fine game. Honestly belongs right next to Battle for Bikini Bottom in the pantheon of 3D Platformers Based Off Of A Cartoon That Actually Slap. B+, would shoulder charge Lotso directly into a lake again.

It's just okay???? It's not really good but like it is cool to pick up and play and zoom through a level.

Will probably keep playing and unlock the star world just because.

Yet another game I'm unhealthily obsessed with.
I've had this game since around 2015 or so, first starting out on mobile, then Xbox, then Nintendo Switch, then finally the PC version of the game (which is the best version by far). It's such a fun, addicting game that I couldn't imagine not having it on any console I've played on. I may be slightly biased since Terraria is a part of my childhood at this point, but believe me when I say this game is worth it. There's so much to do; fight the crazy amount of bosses, build whatever your heart desires, etc. The final stretch of the game where you fight the final remaining bosses is one of the most satisfying and fun experiences to me, since everything in the game is just so creative and fun to mess around with. I mean, I never thought I'd be playing a game where I can kill giant floating eyeballs with a yoyo or using a sword that shoots kittens to slay god, but here we are, and I really can't explain just how fun it is.
Please do yourself a favor and play this game, if you haven't already. The modding community is also great, and I've played several amazing mods which add much more insane stuff which makes it even more fun to play.
Alright I'll stop talking

needs a remake with better controls, but has some of the most memorable gaming moments as a kid

The toys to life model aside, the core of the game really was superb. I couldn't have wished for a better game to grow up with. The Toy Box Creativity toys taught me computing fundamentals before I even understood what that meant; the combat system expanding upon what 2.0 brought to the table; it really was the full package and I'm sad that it died so soon.

I think it's worth specifically pointing out that Super Mario Land 2 has an enemy kill counter, which may just be the weirdest part of what already is one of the weirdest Mario games ever made. Mario decides to buy a castle for some reason, and Wario is then invented specifically to steal it. You get eaten by a turtle to then get eaten by a whale, fight Jason from Friday the 13th alongside a bunch of yokai, and an entire set of levels is themed predominantly around ants. Super Mario Land 2 is bizarre and because of that I'll always have a soft spot for it. Just a nice easy breezy hour or two of platforming, what's not to love?

whoever thought of hammer bros should be killed

It’s 1987 and your best friend invites you over to his place to play video games, he says he got a new game and loves it and thinks you’ll like it too. Expecting Alex Kidd in Miracle World on the Sega Master System you excitedly agree! Then after school you two head over to his place to play, then he pulls out an NES and a game called Volleyball, you’re disappointed but hope for the best. You two start playing and you quickly discover how bad this game is, controlling the players is difficult and the feel of the game is awful with annoying sound effects. A sinking feeling sets in before you look around and realize your best friend is a huge Nintendo fan and thinks the NES is a good console! With good games??? Insanity!!! Finally your mom comes to pick you and release you from your torment. You leave and when you get in the car, your mom asks you how it was. You tell her that you no longer have a best friend.

All Star is canon in the Donkey Kong universe.

Played on Switch Online

My only prior experience with Super Mario 64 was playing the hell out of the DS version as a kid. This both reinforced how good Mario 64 is at it's core while also showing me how far 3D Mario games have come since.

The sheer ambition on display is apparent from the very beginning in the castle. The concept of jumping into portraits and focusing on a star during each visit is brilliant but also leads to situations where I wanted to get more than one star. So it was kind of annoying to get kicked out each time. Also, the camera is brutal. It works well enough for the early levels but as soon as the difficulty ramps up, it becomes unmanageable imo. Just pure chaos. Likewise, I think the levels deteriorate in quality as the game progresses. While they become more interesting thematically (Tiny/Big World comes to mind), the level design is just not as interesting as cheap instant death scenarios become the norm. Mario still controls very well for the most part on the 64 controller though and the feeling of discovering secrets carries the experience.

Favorite thing: Rewarding exploration

Least favorite thing: Bad camera

so so disappointing that a game with such good art direction and music and cool concepts with the additional helpers is so bland and boring to play through. i guess at the least it's over quickly enough if you dont go for 100%

At it's peak, this game was one of the most fun FPS games I've ever played. Coming from someone who really isn't much of a FPS game fanatic, it was genuinely one of the most fun experiences I've had with the genre. But it has most definitely fallen down HARD. It's still got the same fun mechanics, but the game has stopped all updates at this point and it's quite hard to stay attached to the game. I still play occasionally, but it had without a doubt fallen off what it used to be.

I've only listened to two of his soundtracks, but I'm already ready to call David Wise one of my favorite video game composers.
