Games Played in 2018 (Ranked)

These are games I played for the first time in 2018. Note that they're not for games that came out in 2018.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Bar none, one of the best stories to ever be in a video game. Another one of those rare cases of a game that I think is as close to the title of "perfect" in what it sets out to achieve. Saying anything else about the game would spoil the experience, so if you haven't played it, please, go play it.

1

Lethal League Blaze
Lethal League Blaze
Lethal League Blaze is a great sequel to the original Lethal League, and it essentially makes the game even better than the original. Such a simple, strange little fighting game that's more of a party game than a fighting game. Absolutely rad game, with a developer that I have complete faith in making more great games. Hopefully that never changes.

2

Yakuza 0
Yakuza 0
Yakuza 0 is the second Yakuza game I've played, and it's combat system is one of the best. All the different combat styles are fun and unique, getting all the substories is fantastic and rewarding, and every single side activity was a joy to go through. Ontop of this is a fantastic story that gives Majima a very beautifully tragic back story.

3

Yakuza Kiwami
Yakuza Kiwami
Yakuza Kiwami is great, despite it not being a one to one remake. It was my first Yakuza game, and for a game, I think it works really well as a beginning point of the series for anyone, 0 and Kiwami 1 are interchangeable starting points. The story is great, combat is great, substories are great, it's all great.

4

Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors
Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors
999 is a great VN. Playing on the original DS, it was a unique experience. It has some good writing in it, probably the best in the entire Trilogy with its writing. Only problem with it is the need to repeat the same puzzles and routes to do alternative routes. Other than that, this game is fantastic, and used to be Uchikochi's best work.

5

Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus
It's Shadow of the Colossus, one of my favorite games ever, in a less beautiful artstyle/lighting system. It's still Shadow of the Colossus, just at a stable frame rate. If it wasn't for the small changes, this would be at the top of the list. But the changes bring it down a little.

6

Bayonetta
Bayonetta
Bayonetta is great, a game I should definitely replay and get better at. Such an insane game, with insane combat and cutscene, great music and story, and one of my favorite female characters. Bayonetta is absolutely amazing!

7

Spyro the Dragon
Spyro the Dragon
Spyro The Dragon! What a nice platformer! It has some really good levels, with some beautiful sky boxes, and really cool music.

8

Anarchy Reigns
Anarchy Reigns
Platinum's take on a multiplayer character action brawler! Pretty alright campaign, really fun multiplayer!

9

Yakuza Kiwami 2
Yakuza Kiwami 2
If this was made in the old engine, I would have probably liked the gameplay more. Though, honestly, I think the story, at least in Kiwami, felt a lot weaker than 0 and Kiwami 1.

10

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The fact that this game is as huge as it is, with as large of a roster as it has, and it still manages to be a really fun game, is honestly such a treat. If Sakurai stopped making Smash games, I would be satisfied. It's got its problems, but at the end of the day, it's still one of the most fun Smash games to me.

11

Deltarune: Chapter 1
Deltarune: Chapter 1
Deltarune Chapter 1 is a fun beginning to this alternative universe of Undertale. It has some great humor, characters, music, etc.

12

Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion
Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion
A really fun expansion to the already great Splatoon 2 campaign! The structure of having smaller challenge levels is really nice, and it's a really fun experience.

13

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
A notable step down in writing from 999, but it's still pretty good. Has some good moments, but the structure of the game makes the pacing really bad at times. The middle part of the VN is definitely the weakest, but it comes together at the end in an interesting way. It's too bad it's sequel is a gigantic waste of time.

14

Journey
Journey
Journey is a game that I remember enjoying. I think I was spoiled on the premise, but sort of just forgot it while I was playing, so it was nice to play through the game and to find out I made some actual friends along the way and not just NPCs. Beautiful music too, just a really pleasant game to go through!

15

Marble It Up! Classic
Marble It Up! Classic
Marble It Up is great. I never played the original games this game was a spiritual successor to, but it was a really fun time. Playing around with physics will never not be fun.

16

Paratopic
Paratopic
A bizzare little game that I think proved to me that PS1/N64 graphics are still really interesting, even in a modern age.

17

Art of Balance
Art of Balance
A fun, cozy little puzzle game. A good time waster!

18

Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
This is probably one of those games, series even, that I'm going to need to give another chance. I played the game on Normal I think, and I remember feeling bored. The mission structure to the game was fairly repetitive and I remember disliking going back to previous world's and doing objectives that were worse the second time around. But the main problem was, I really should have played on Critical, since the game becomes an entirely different experience on Critical.

19

Gravity Rush 2
Gravity Rush 2
A good game that drags it's feet towards the end, making it a bit disappointing.

20

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix
I remember having fun with this on a very basic level combat wisel, but also not liking the level design. I didn't hate it though.

21

The Last Guardian
The Last Guardian
A game that has such promise, but a disappointing execution. I wish I could love this game, but it ends up lacking due to Trico's AI being more of a hindrance than it was fun. Granted, SotC had Aggro disobey orders at times, but it rarely ever affected you as much as it does with Trico. Ontop of that, the game just runs fairly poorly as well, so it tends to make the game feel ugly. I liked the ending, from what I remember. I love the world, the bond between Trico and the boy, but it just doesn't do enough with what it has, sadly.

22

Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
I don't like this game, the card system is very fun, and the levels to this game are atrocious. The story tends to get fairly repetitive too, even for a Kingdom Hearts game, where they all tend to be repetitive after a certain point.

23

6 AM at The Chum Bucket
Meme game I streamed for Halloween, it was very silly

24

Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia
I don't remember if this was the right game, the game I played was called "schizophrenia simulator", and it ended overdramtically with a guy hearing voices in his head telling him to shoot himself, followed by a PSA message. I busted out laughing from how offensive it was.
