2018

It got me to like roguelike games, which is really something. this game is brilliantly designed and polished to a ridiculous degree. every corner of the map, every playthrough, something new awaits you, the amount of work this must've taken scares me. another great title by Supergiant.

Excellent game. there's a wide variety of levels, all unique and interesting. This is one of the prettiest and most polished-looking games on the switch and the mechanics are pretty sound. it's really just a refinement of the Luigi's mansion formula.

minor spoilers ahead:

where i felt the game could use some improvements are:
- bring back the scariness factor. the original had a good eerie feel to it, with lots of very dimly lit rooms, many areas in this are too brightly lit, and the ghosts don't invoke the same fear when they pop out. I looked back at the original just to see and it still definitely feels more tense and foreboding(as far as a mario title goes anyway).the tension is more palpable and exemplified by the setpieces, environmental and sound design
- there is pretty much no replayability. the game is good, and it kinda gets hurt by this. I have not really felt like playing throught it again because it's easy enough that i'd just breeze through again, and there's no kind of postgame or new game plus with anything extra. you can play multiplayer i guess.
- needs more interconnectedness and backtracking. the original had a section of the game which required revisiting old cleared rooms, and it felt more like one cohesive connected world than individual levels like this does. there is some but not a lot.

one of my favorite RPGs, it's a classic that stands out among other titles. I really like the battle system and the difficulty is at a good level on the normal setting. This game oozes atmosphere, it gives a strong feeling of isolation in a hostile world that you need to fight to survive in.
the randomness of what can happen in each battle gives some novelty to each encounter, but you can never let your guard down or it's over. I should mention this has one of the most banger soundtracks in any game I've ever played.
It's not the best looking game, it's annoying and frustrating at times from the level design, and it's unforgiving, but I keep coming back to it.

I tried it because it's a yu-gi-oh game, it doesn't play like one at all, but despite being different it's not enjoyable at all and is extremely slow. I rented it and returned it the same day.

I remember this being a strange pokemon-esque rip-off back when that was all the rage. the creators had intended for this I.P. to be the next big thing with shows, merchandise etc. but it didn't take off. the story is kind of dark for a children's game and the premise has you both capturing monsters and fighting along side them against bosses. the music was very basic and graphical complexity was very poor being on the GBC, i tried to play again recently and it doesn't really hold up at all. There's still some fun to be had here but it's very dated.

really enjoyed the oracle games, there are some elements not seen in other 2D zelda games. they are kind of basic but fun regardless. i do prefer oracle of Seasons slightly more than Ages due to the unique items present.

really good 2D zelda, both the oracle games are different so it's worth playing both. they were developed by Capcom and they each do some unique things that haven't been done in other zelda title. any 2D zelda fan needs to play these. you aren't going to get a riveting, complex story or intense action but it's fun and interesting.

another good stadium title, expanded on Stadium 1. good for importing your pokemon from the gameboy games and battling it out.

I actually quite enjoyed this, it was more polished than Goldeneye in some aspects. I think the single player was better as well. didn't get to play with many people, and you needed the expansion pack in order to play it. I also really like the feature to play against AI bots, that was a very nice addition.

probably the best smash game. controls are really tight and had lots of content.

Being one of the few RPGs on the n64, i tried this several times, on one attempt i played through about maybe 20 hours but had no real desire to finish it. it's not well designed and even what story is there is not very compelling.

kind of clunky and not very memorable apart form that catchy main menu theme.

I rented this back in the day, it was an ok platformer but there are far better titles on the N64 in the genre.

This game is a collectathon hater's worst nightmare but I think there's a lot to like here. there's a ton of levels all unique with a bajillion (no exaggeration) little mini games and puzzles. lots of backtracking is required with switching characters and coming back after aquiring new abilities. I think it's another of Rare's best games. it can be annoying at times but the atmosphere and Grant Kirkhope's godly soundtrack make it enjoyable.

another cool entry back when pokemon games were decent. you move on rails to take picture of pokemon and try to influence them from your cart to get them to do things and entice them to come out. cool unique concept at the time.
