i thought this was goty for the first 3 hours. and then nothing changed except the mediocre investigation/platforming sequences got even longer

i played a lot of this after i got addicted to a different pool game on my iphone

updated review: this game is basically perfect

actually pretty fun, but it loses a star because i can't support 2K's business practices in good conscience

why do i keep buying these games

-How do you see your operator, this “Lan”? What is he to you?
-He’s my best friend!

The original Battle Network gets a lot of points for completely upending the Mega Man formula that we know and love. It’s not an awful game, but there are more than a few kinks to iron out, most of which are navigation-based. Regardless, this is a good start that introduces a lovable cast, an interesting new world to explore, an insane twist ending, and one of the best JRPG battle systems of all time.

2016

in the summer of 2016, i unknowingly had -$1,200 in my bank account and decided to rent doom. once i learned about my account balance, i couldn't return the game because, otherwise, redbox would charge me for the full price of the rental as well as my overdraft fee. eventually, i ended up owing redbox $80 for this awesome, stupid game and it definitely wasn't worth it

i sure am terrible at this fantastic game

almost everything about this game sucks except the core gameplay is so insanely good that it's a 5/5

please only follow the main path so that you don’t grow to almost hate this game like i did
