remakes that cause damage
this is a companion to remakes that can replace
the criteria is effectively the opposite. the games listed here will either be harmful to the original's image, or "remasters" that are broken in ways that make them all around worse to play (silent hill hd collection is the perfect example of this)
suggestions are welcome, but inclusions are strict (no sotc 2018 - the aesthetic is marginally altered but the identity of the game is fully intact and it controls identically)

Also, the Nonary Games version of 999 because without the two screens, it just feels way less impactful, especially the climax since the two screens are literally needed to have it be an effective and impactful moment.
@smashblack i feel like atari conversions are a lil disingenuous because like... it's the 2600 trying to replicate an arcade game and there's very little hope of that ever working. but iunno maybe. it's definitely more egregious of a release than like, centipede or missile command
ditto nonary games 100%. thanks for pointing it out

Blood Fresh Supply: While not quite as bad as Bladerunner, Fresh Supply is still easily the second worst Nightdive release. Launched in an unexusably bad state and was patched to just barely be acceptable. Despite that its arguably the worst (modern) sourceport for the game
Serious Sam HD/Fusion: New visuals are ugly as sin and removes virtually all style & personality the original had. The change in engine also led to a change in how physics were handeled, resulting in numerous sections of the game to be changed. The ai for multeiple enemies are changed, and across the board are broken. In a single play session youll frequently encounter enemies that get stuck on walls+random objects, get stuck on eachother, or stuck at their spawnpoint, etc.
Fusion fixes some of the bugs in the HD releases, and yet manages to introduce dozens that are arguably even worse - most notably enemey ai is even MORE broken, and projectile weapons just cease functioning properly at times. It's also reaching its 7th year of "beta" aka, its been completely abandoned and will never be fixed.
On that note: Serious Sam Revolution. Another terrible re-release of the first two games that got abandoned. Plagued with performance issues & random crashes, a myriad of visual bugs, and TERRIBLE netcode
Rise of the Triad 2013: this shit sucks man

@elassirish great suggestions. i'll hold off on rise of the triad as i'm not familiar enough + i dont think a game in the original's style could ever really be tarnished by something that obviously is nothing like it, but uh, yeah it doesn't look fantastic
Surprised Symphonia HD hasn't been mentioned yet. Alongside having the main issue people had w/ prior rereleases (30fps cap), it was also notoriously buggy especially on Switch - to the point Bamco had to outright apologize and made three different patches just to make it get the state of "fine enough".
@blazingwaters good call. added!
I think pokemon brilliant diamond/shining pearl should be here since it removed content that a lot of people enjoyed like the battle frontier while also looking horrendous. As well as forced EXP share and the horribly unbalanced affection system basically trivialising most of the game.
didnt read all of the p3p section but the fact its there is good enough for me
@chandler It might just be me own personal experience with ROTT2013 then. Around the time it came out i had to literally beg people I knew to give the original a chance. Then again they also thought the original "aged" so take that with a grain of salt lol
