An often overlooked gem of the Xbox Live Arcade library. Wonder if it can still be played on modern Xbox systems.

Seamlessly sidestrafing through rooms filled with enemies while rocking that silenced pistol feels hella good; on PC though.

So full of itself it incidentally ends up being a kinda memorable experience.

Love the force and attitude that this game exudes; it's like a little window into the very late 90's-early 2000's MTV culture.

What's with people saying every god damn game is "aged"? This plays perfectly fine.

Revisiting and catching up with old friends that you made throughtout the previous games will always be the silver lining of this otherwise mess of a game.

The aliens, the starships, that depiction of a far distant future: I've always liked it a lot, clunkiness and shitty Paragon-Renegade system aside.

I like how creative the camera work is in this one compared to the following installments; that and the prevalence of distorted metallic objects in its depiction of the Otherworld have always made this the most visually stimulating SH after probably 3.

2001

Made me fall in love with video games again.

Meaty but braindead combat, stealth is just pressing triangle a bunch of times, story sucks, etc. Kinda speak volumes of how good presentation and proper pacing can get you through a game.

1993

The lack of vertical aiming makes movement more vital than accuracy. Gunning down hordes of demons feels like participating in some macabre dance around enemies; up until you zone out completely and let muscle memory do the rest. That's Doom for me.

Funny, also kinda creepy. A perfect little bit of both.

The speed of it all plus the combination of beautiful sprite work in the character design and charming early polygonal models in the background make for one alluring as hell fighting game. Impossible to take your eyes off the screen.

Mary's full delivery of her letter still gets me to this day. Pure, raw, unadultered human emotion.

It's almost the perfect representation of the mental image I had of Doom as a kid: terrifying and vicious. In no small part thanks to that soundtrack.
