An approachable shmup that still gets punishingly difficult towards the end, but doesn't feel cheap. Fun powerup system, and anovel and vibrant aesthetic.

Lots of password-based secrets and cheats, and I used the high-risk Arcade Mode password (makirin) to make more of the playing field visible.

Started on Analogue Duo with a 2.4GHz 8bitdo Neo Geo controller, but hit a wall on level 8; switched to the TurboDuo and nailed it in one.

Still fun and gripping, but combat and story were weaker than the other Kiwami engine games, lacking the same polish. Majima Saga was a nice addition.

Short and sweet. Save states help. Dunno the strategy for the chainsaw boss so brute forced that.

clunky platforming, and oh, do I hate whip weapons. quite difficult. glad I played it though, and not just to test the TurboDuo's CD-ROM assembly

Short and sweet! Controls are a bit stiff, but could just be this DuoPad and its 30yr old silicone membranes.

Quick! Good combat, but easy patterns and puzzles.

very fun, and feels good to shoot and traverse the maps. it's a real Dreamcast-ass game and I love it.

Brutal in some areas. didn't feel as tight as the older 2D Marios. still fun solo.
start date is a wild guess.

Very good riff on Link to the Past. Some of the dungeon mechanics overstayed their welcome, and never found any Pegasus boots if needed for Maimais.

Better than 2, in that it's less eager to kill any momentum you build up.

feels rather clunky for a modern Mega Man. punishing difficulty reminiscent of the classics, requiring the use of coneumables.

also beat on GCN, owned on 3DS
