Games that exceeded my expectations
Doesn't mean I like all of these games or think they're good, but I liked them more than I thought I would. Unranked.

I grew up with 64 DS so this was initially a hard jump. When I tried it on the 3D All-Stars collection, I couldn't get into it. Then I tried again with N64 Online and ended up loving it. Still prefer the DS version, but they have separate appeals.
I figured I would enjoy this one a fair bit, but I didn't expect to adore it. Deserves its praise.
I fully expected this to be one of those games that's heavily praised but then I finally play it and don't see the appeal. But no, this just is a pretty decent time. Many more fun platformers out there imo, but no real complaints here.
Well, I expected to find DKC 1 overhyped, so you can imagine that I thought it would be more like with the even more popular game. Instead, I ended up liking this one more than the first game, like most people do. Again, I still prefer many other platformers, but I was pleased by this one.
I mean, it's a good remake of specifically Diamond/Pearl, so on that front it exceeds expectations.
Yes, I am putting this on my disappointing games list and this one, fuck you.
A prequel wasn't really needed, and in some ways making Chloe the protagonist is counterintuitive, but I can't deny this game made me much happier than I figured it would.
I mean, it's pretty much more Sonic 1 so I can't complain much. Torch level can eat my ass, though.
Endless runners I don't care for much, but apparently plain autorunners can be good fun.
Used to hate this game, but now having played the other main Metroid games and trying this one again, I've come to see how ahead of its time this game was. It would be a very impressive game if it weren't on the Game Boy.
Can't say I had "expectations" for this game, but it was a fun time and I loved playing it with my friend.
Certainly not the best the series has to offer, but the sheer vitriol people have for this entry is way too potent.
Early Genesis beat 'em up with a generic fantasy setting? Recipe for me to not care. But I actually liked it a decent bit. Not mind-blowing, but not bad at all.
It's pretty mid, but damn that soundtrack.
Oh no, this game is not good, but I love the stupid jank. The small white crusty dog of Castlevania.
A development within the past year. Fun gameplay and it lets you play as much as you want (and even rewards you for it)? This is my favorite mobile game, not even close.
(GBA) Bad game, no doubt, but I kind of enjoy it for some reason? The Robin sections being Adventures of Lololo of all things was nice.
Don't get why this was such a punching bag in the 2000s, not bad.
It's not better than DK1 (not saying much) and I would sooner return to that one.... but I'd play this one for longer when I do play it.
The mode in Triple Deluxe is mid, so this was a surprisingly fun one.
A one-time payment for a pretty good minigame collection? Sign me up. Shame my hpone deleted my save data.
He turns himself into Firebrand. Funniest shit I've ever seen.
Toree 3D wasn't up to snuff with what I had heard, so I was happy to see this one was such a great love letter to a lot of different games.
Impulse bought it back in the day just cause I wanted a cheap game to play through. Turns out, it's a very replayable little game.
No, not very good, but kid me would've played this over and over.
