I'm not sure if I could trust anyone that actually likes this visual novel if I'm being real. I honestly only played this because I had "Saya's Song" stuck in my head for like a week and thought to myself at 1 AM today to finally give the stupid VN a go (knowing I wasn't going to like it). Anyways I did manage to play it through in like 3 sittings since it was short but Jesus Christ was it actually awful. I also got every ending so before any dudebro with nonce particles inside them gets rowdy thinking I only got one ending or something, CALM DOWN.

I liked certain concepts of the game such as Saya being a sort of "idol" to Fuminori, but I genuinely wished the game didn't try cramming down stupid unnecessary sex scenes down our throats like "heh... isn't this EVIL and DARKSIDED? take a glimpse at Urobuchi's DARK and TWISTED mind... heh". Like great, thanks Urobuchi I don't like you. Everyone and their grandma is like nnooo nooo these sexual scenes are supposed to cement how far gone Fuminori is and how he's losing his humanity and like it's to show how he and Saya are the only lonely people in each other's worlds and- BLAH BLAH BLAH I DONT CARE. IT SUCKS. If I'm being real the sex scenes with Fuminori feel like an excuse for men to find a way to feel aroused during these scenes because clearly they were trying to hit some sort of erotic points for the reader. There are so many things that could have been done better to still prove that Fuminori is a horrible human being without it resorting to sex. I had to keep skipping the h scenes and their dialogue because why would any sane person want to see a grown ass man doing all of that to someone who looks like a ten year old. If I had a nickel for how many times I saw the word manhood as a replacement for the word penis I'd have enough money to fly to Japan and drop an anvil on Urobuchi's head.

Anyways, I just don't appreciate how pessimistic and misanthropic this visual novel is, and I guess I'm glad I finally played through this myself so I can mentally throw rocks and strike people with psychic beams anytime I see someone praise this horrendous piece of slop.

They really said "Close your eyes" i mean shit say less

šŸ˜ˆšŸ˜ˆšŸ˜ˆThe perfect video game for a maniacal psychology major such as myself šŸ˜ˆšŸ˜ˆšŸ˜ˆ. Sigmund freud's theory of personality and carl jung archetypes in MY turnbased video game šŸ˜ˆšŸ˜ˆšŸ˜ˆa truly spectacular sight to behold..........................šŸ˜ˆ

Similarly to Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Iā€™m incredibly confused how this is the highest rated game of the series in recent memory.
When reaching the end of that game, I found myself thinking that the reason it was so well received was not because it was actually better than the last one (it absolutely wasnā€™t), but just because it was the MOST of one of those games yet.
I canā€™t shake the feeling that thatā€™s the case here. While Remake drew a 4-8hr section of the original game up to about 35hrs, it felt relatively focused aside from a couple of dud chapters and boring side quests which feel like a series staple at this point.
Rebirth on the other hand feels lost; never able to balance the more sincere but serious tone established in Remake and the desired quirkiness of the ā€˜97 original. It also stumbles at nearly every hurdle with how they have chosen to implement the open world aspects. While promising in the open hours due to a seemingly more hands off approach, itā€™s quickly turned into another map clearing checklist. Only this time on top of this standard open world fair, youā€™re also treated to constant harassment from one of the worst characters in a video game; incessantly calling you to tell you that you just activated a tower right after you just activated a bloody tower. Thereā€™s this immense friction to the open world in this game; a constant stopping and starting which really kills any sense of momentum you might be gathering. By chapter 10, I was so checked out of the open world activities and how badly they felt just tacked on that I tried just mainlining the story. However, level requirements forced me to go back and do them just to eke out a few more levels.
As far as the story is concerned, there were at least a few moments where it felt relatively consistent. I hated that the game started in media res, with near to no setup dovetailing out of Remake. I felt compelled to continue at least.
As things progressed it became increasingly clear that while Remake only had to introduce the story and could play freely in that space up to the point of leaving Midgar, this one has to tackle a midpoint. It never feels like thereā€™s clearly established stakes other than this aimless wandering; every few hours you are quickly told ā€œthe princess is in another castleā€ and itā€™s time for ā€œnext locationā€ and ferried off to another open world map littered with banal activities and a litany of new mini games. Itā€™s genuinely hard to shake the feeling that they realized this would be the same length as the last game for what should be a much bigger part of the story if they didnā€™t stuff it to the brim with side content. Unfortunately quantity over quality definitely beat out the alternative, but Queenā€™s Blood is good at the very least.
Liked the combat for the most part, it feels like some good changes were introduced from the previous game. However party management is so atrocious in this game and at several points I felt like the game was actively screwing me over because it locks you into mandatory story sections with a few specific party members. If youā€™ve got one party member youā€™ve not paid attention to or not outfitted adequately, as I had, these sections are utterly unbearable (looking at you Chap 12, Iā€™m sure most people will know what I mean).
Really donā€™t know how theyā€™ll pad the next one to make it a ā€œfull lengthā€ game, but after this one I doubt Iā€™ll be rushing to play it whenever it does come out.

This game is a Rebirth in the way that Buddhists believe you will be reborn as a hungry ghost with an enormous stomach and a tiny mouth as a punishment for leading a life consumed by greed and spite

it's ok but it tries too hard to be drakengard 1

This review contains spoilers

the entire dyne sequence is a perfect microcosm of every single problem with the reboot versions. barrett cant have his character moment because the games more interested in a) making every single character a Righteous Epic Hero Guy (so dyne spends the entire time after the fight shooting about 100 shinra soldiers), and b) so terrified you'll get bored because something hasnt happened in the last 5 minutes that immediately after dyne dies the game makes you do a pointless sweeper fight and an on-rails shooting section. dynes arc is like one of the most important subplots in all of ff7 to barretts character arc and they rush through it as fast as possible, mostly because they already removed all the point of any of his motivations in the first game (bc It Was Shinra's Fault The Explosion Was Like That, god forbid characters have moral ambiguity) so why bother.

i think yoshinori kitase should not be in charge of this franchise

this game could learn a thing or two from genshin impact about how to design an open world, and a few things from honkai star rail on how to make good graphics.

at least the music is serviceable i guess.
